It is now reportedly confirmed that Sony will no longer bring their PlayStation narrative single-player games to PC. Return of the console wars?
Back in March there was the report that Sony would be moving away from PC ports, and now it seems we have some further confirmation of this. Coming from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg posting on Bluesky to note: "SCOOP: PlayStation studio business CEO Hermen Hulst told staff in a town hall Monday morning that the company's narrative single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive, confirming Bloomberg's reporting from earlier this year."
They've put quite a few games on PC including The Last of Us, Stellar Blade, Horizon Zero Dawn, Helldivers 2, Spider Man, God of War and plenty more. But, they faced a fair amount of backlash when trying to force the PlayStation Network - and even restricted a bunch of games from purchases in many regions on Steam. So they did make a quite a few missteps there.
With Xbox (or is it XBOX now?), Microsoft are refocusing as well with their new gaming CEO. They've moved away from the everything is an XBOX branding, and will quite likely push some exclusives as well.
And so, with that, I'm making a firm claim that the console wars have returned. What a shame, we had a good run of it on PC for a while, and thanks to Valve's Proton we've been able to play tons of these AAA games on Linux but all good things come to an end as they say.
Now we just need the Linux powered Steam Machine to actually release.
I mean not even Microsoft realised Windows is a dead platform as well and still clinging to it and just making the live of every Windows users even more miserable every day just because they can not let go and accept the future is cross platform (not web based cross platform)
