If you were hoping to play Subnautica 2 on handhelds like the Steam Deck, you should be able to do so without much trouble at the Early Access release. The game is due to arrive on May 14th so there's not long to go!

What is Subnautica 2? It's an underwater survival adventure game set on an all-new alien world. It is the next chapter in the Subnautica universe, developed by Unknown Worlds. In the latest developer video (below), their design lead Anthony Gallegos goes over some of what to expect from the Early Access launch. You can see their studio playing on Steam Decks multiple times in the video and Gallegos mentions directly: "If you're planning to join the early access journey on Xbox Series consoles, ROG Xbox Ally series, or Steam Deck, you're good to go".

I'll be waiting for full release + reading up on community thoughts since this title has had such a cursed development cycle. No idea what to expect.

Never mind early access, I'm normally a gamer that waits years after the actual release of a game to play it, but for this one I'm sorely tempted to get it now - Subnautica is one of my favorite games and there's nothing else out there like it. Not that it's very important but $30 sounds very reasonable and they may also raise the price on release.

Wow, looking at the specs, I only meet the minimum requirements.
Ultra Requirements -- My PC
32GB RAM -- 64GB
7900XTX -- 9070XT
16GB VRAM -- 16GB VRAM
Ryzen 9 7900X3D -- (damn!) 5950X

I gotta say, this is the first game I've seen that needed a CPU beyond what I have...

You meet the 'Ultra' requirements, just not the 4K Ultra.
Do you have a 4k monitor?

first game?

I mean ...

You have a bleeding edge gpu, tons of ram, and an (comparatively) ancient cpu. How did you even come to be in this build? Your cpu is half a decade old but paired with a brand new gpu?

5950X is a solid productivity CPU and they have 64GB of ram, also probably productivity oriented.
Moving to AM5 also means replacing his 64GB DDR4 for DDR5, a big investment. They might have upgraded their GPU from something quite ancient, path of least resistance.

@Jarmer

Yes, the first game ... that I've actually been really interested in. I'm not a FPS person and prefer (MMO)RPG and Sim games.

@sankao

And yes, productivity based. It is my OBS streaming/production machine. I had a 6700XT in it previously and upgraded to the 9070XT as it was on sale at Microcenter before the RAM market went pear-shaped. I was >< close to upgrading to a 9950X and 64GB of memory but got 2 27" 4k/120Hz monitors instead to go with the existing pair of 23" 1080p/144Hz monitors I have. This was last October and I'm kicking myself in the arse every day when I see the bundle pricing for a 9950X at Microcenter now.

Most of the games I run are older, so the 5950X isn't a problem for any of them really and the 9070XT helps with that a lot as well.

I was just surprised to see the CPU requirements for the "Ultra 4k" settings.
