Bastion on Steam has been updated to use FNA

Posted by , | Views: 9,325

Bastion, from Supergiant Games has been updated on Steam with Simplified Chinese support and it also moves all versions of the game over to FNA.

This is important, as the newer FNA build should allow the game to work for a long time as well as hopefully fix any lingering issues anyone had with it on Linux.

It was announced by Ethan Lee (the author of FNA, who also ports a lot of Linux games) yesterday on Twitter to let everyone know what the update was for.

Strange it took a while though, since the GOG release in October was the FNA build.

About the game:

Bastion is an action role-playing experience that redefines storytelling in games, with a reactive narrator who marks your every move. Explore more than 40 lush hand-painted environments as you discover the secrets of the Calamity, a surreal catastrophe that shattered the world to pieces. Wield a huge arsenal of upgradeable weapons and battle savage beasts adapted to their new habitat. Finish the main story to unlock the New Game Plus mode and continue your journey!

If you've still not played it, the game is actually on sale on Steam right now for another ~45 hours. 75% off is a steal — grab while you can!

I'm so excited about this! I couldn't play Bastion on my steam machine due to a bug where direction inputs on a 360 pad would stick after being released. I hope they fixed it so I can replay one if my favorite games of all time.

I'm not 100% sure, but I played around with movement for a few minutes and it seems the deadzone issue was fixed by the port. I tried a lot of moving and stopping and couldn't get it to trigger, where it was pretty easy to trigger in the past.

Basically the older version of Bastion had no/a really small deadzone (expanded area around center of analog stick's axes which is considered no input) so if the analog stick came to rest slightly off-center (which they often do, hence the need for a deadzone) it would register as movement in that direction.

What was it using before though?

I thought it was an SDL2 game, but apparently I was wrong?

Well, time to reinstall it again! haha

Maybe I will finish it as I tired of CSGO for now!!

That's awesome, also bastion is on sale (75% Off) until October 2nd. I love their games but not so much their new one pyre, it's a fantastic game but it lacks gameplay as in actual time you spend playing vs reading text and roaming around. I haven't played it yet but I did watch a LP of it, I intend to play it but it's low on my wishlist so I might pick it up in a bundle. I loved bastion and transistor so check out their other game too.

MonoGame.
BTW. FNA uses SDL, but I don't know anything about MonoGame ;)

I've had a lot of fun imagining what FNA might be an acronym for (Finnish Nanny Association, Friendly Ninja Attack!, Fiendishly Naughty Angels ... ) but then I realized that even if I did happen to guess its meaning in this case, I wouldn't know it. So, I'll just ask. What does FNA stand for and what is it, exactly?

Now if I can only get the game to run at 2560x1080 resolution, I'll be all set. WSGF has a solution for the Windows version. Does anyone know how to fix it on Linux?

Since it is a reimplementation of Microsoft XNA, probably "FNA's not acronymed."
