Rocket League is now officially available for SteamOS, due to the time of the release I will be unable to give any actual impressions as I am likely asleep while this gets published.

I will be able to get impressions up rather early tomorrow morning (UTC time), as it will be my first priority. It will likely be the main game on our Friday livestream too.

It's been a bit of a wild ride, but it's here ‒ finally.

They are currently only supporting SteamOS during the beta as originally mentioned in their announcements. Hopefully there won't be too many issues for those of us on desktop Linux.

Find Rocket League on Steam.

UPDATE: BTRE's quick test
I live in a more convenient time zone than Liam and so I've already given the game a quick look. It works on my Arch box, so those worried about the beta being SteamOS-only can now breathe a sigh of relief. Those Mesa fans out there might also be pleased to know it works on my aging Radeon 7870 with the latest git build (haven't tried with the stable builds of Mesa). I played a couple of quick matches vs the AI and performance is good, sticking almost always near 60 fps during gameplay with the default of high quality settings (save anti-aliasing) . There is some stutter as the game loads assets for the first time when a match starts or when you first open the main menu but it goes away for me rather quickly. Hopefully it's something the devs will improve on as I imagine that it can be real annoying in online matches.

I'm sure Liam will have a fuller port report sometime soon.

About the game
Soccer meets driving once again in the long-awaited, physics-based sequel to the beloved arena classic, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars!

A futuristic Sports-Action game, Rocket League®, equips players with booster-rigged vehicles that can be crashed into balls for incredible goals or epic saves across multiple, highly-detailed arenas. Using an advanced physics system to simulate realistic interactions, Rocket League® relies on mass and momentum to give players a complete sense of intuitive control in this unbelievable, high-octane re-imagining of association football. I'm so sad that my laptop is broken :( I've been stranded without a PC for almost two months now, had to use just my "meh" chinese smartphone :(
I can't wait to get my new PC (desktop) sometime in the next few weeks and play this :D I was really excited for this game arriving on Linux and being able to play it with my Steam Controller

I am really surprised... All this time the developper said he delayed the game release because he wanted to release a perfect completed port, and we get now a beta... the issues are :
- no translations
- no sync with player stats and game settings (all my conf when playing with wine is not sync, while it was on other windows computers)
- sometimes the game crash just after launching
- performs slower than wine with exact same settings

So it's a beta, but not as clean as they wanted to announce it.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. I think devs who haven't ported an Unreal 3 Engine game to Linux before tend to underestimate just how messed up it is. Since other games have been ported, they probably think it will be relatively easy only to find out that previous ports built upon years of messes going all the way back to Dungeon Defenders. This all could have been avoided if Epic had ever released an official Linux version (like we have with Unreal 4), but they didn't. So, considering all that, it could actually be much much worse.

OMG this is so unbelievably fun! I scored a hat trick! YAY!

While there may be issues. It IS in beta. So just try to enjoy what we have! For eg, i'm in Asia but got dumped onto EU servers. The ping diff really dosen't make all that much of a diff so i just ran with it and bam!

Quoting: LeyRoseAnyone else having trouble getting any controllers to register? I've tried both an Xbox 360 controller as well as a Steam Controller (in both Big Picture mode and out of it) and RL doesn't seem to register anything at all. Still, super excited about finally having this game on Linux!

I did not have a problem with the gameplay working on my custom Steam Machine and a Steam controller. However, it does not seem there is any way to chat with friends with just the Steam controller in game, had to get a bluetooth keyboard to type in those boxes. It is nice that during game, they give you hotkeys for quick chat messages (left d-pad on Steam controller).

The game runs very smooth so far for me. The only problem is one crash while loading a game. It crashed twice with the person I partied up with (also on Linux).

This game is fun. While it has been frustrating waiting while the devs are mostly silent, this game already seems worth the wait. The game seems to be at a good state and doesn't seem like the beta tag needs to last long.
