I'll see if I can get it to run on my setup. I need to download the game first using a VERY slow connection so it will take some time :P

If I do manage to get it working I'll post how I did it.

Well no success so far, I managed to get it running in a 32bit wineprefix, but half the shaders were missing so the game is unplayable. Either that or the game never gets past the loading screen.

Arch linux 64bit rolling, wine 1.7.45

will test soon as well if i get more time.. it used to work perfectly back like 1-2 years...probably they updated the game with something that doesnt love wine... did you try with wine-staging though? thisone has the most features and patches for things that dont work with normal versions

I was able to get it to work at one point in time quite nicely. But that's been maybe a year ago, and they had just released a patch which broke gamepad play, but I believe they've added that back in (it's listed in Steam as having controller support) but it had topped working in wine as well :(

I kind of stopped playing it due to this, and moved onto try to win some of the other 1000+ games I have in steam.... same reason I stopped sinking time into any online games, Ha!

I really liked playing STO though.

It's working fine on my system...

Fedora 22
Wine 1.7.47

Basically the easiest way is to do it this way:

winetricks steam

Install Star Trek Online from that.

The arc version has some issues. yes, the game is VERY playable. Is it laggy? If you play for six hours straight, it'll get laggy. No one's figured out why.

Sounds like memory leaks. Last time I tried playing it through steam is when it was broken for me. Wasn't sure if it was due to a patch from STO, or a newer version of wine though.

I generally installed steam on my system manually in my own wine bottle prefix. I can provide the exact sequence of commands that will install it and it *SHOULD* work out of the box in wine 1.7.47.

However one thing to be aware of.. the initial loading screen? Expect it to take quite awhile on the first load. Took mine about 15 to 30 minutes on average to get through it. After that, it pretty much loads quick. It's just that first time for some reason takes forever.
