Title: Skyrim (Steam Play) not detecting my graphics card
DevynKo 30 Jan 2019
When I launch skyrim, the launcher only shows my onboard graphics, and doesnt show my AMD graphics card. It launches but runs unbearably slow. Anyone have a fix?
tuxintuxedo 30 Jan 2019
I might be wrong, but since when can people change their default video card inside a game?
You have to launch Steam with your AMD card from the beginning.

I dont know if your meant to "change" it in the options but it does show a graphic adapter option.

Well, that's not common.
But don't forget, SteamPlay works through Wine, so it probably won't see everything on your system as they are. Start the Steam client with the AMD card and it should work this way.

How do I go about doing that.

Open Terminal: DRI_PRIME=1 steam
This should do the trick.

This does make the game see my Graphics Card. But its still running at like 5 fps, if that. My laptop should have no problem running the game spec wise(and didnt have any problems on windows). Any performance ideas? Also That command has to be entered every time I start steam. Any way I can make steam launch automatically with those settings without putting the command in the terminal?

Also, when I try to close the game it freezes up my computer. I have to CRL ALT DELETE and logoff to fix it.

Skyrim always freezes on close, though it's never frozen the whole computer for me. I just switch workspaces and start up system monitor or the terminal and kill it from there.
tuxintuxedo 31 Jan 2019
Well, you haven't told us what graphics card you have and what system you use. Low FPS and freezes can mean many things.

I tried but my mouse also disappears. So im only able to log off with using arrow keys.

First thing to do would be to use Padoka Mesa stable ppa. If you know how to do it.

Unfortunately I don't.
I'm sure you saw that coming lol.

Open the Terminal and type:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:paulo-miguel-dias/pkppa
sudo apt-get update
It will need your password. After everything went smoothly, you should see mesa updates in your Update Manager. Install them.

Okay so we are getting somewhere. This made the menu go a little faster, and when the game loaded it was running decent until I move the mouse. Im getting 20-30 ish frames when I dont move the mouse, then when I try to move the mouse it drops to 1-5.

They say lag happens in Skyrim sometimes, so not much you can do. The freeze at exit is also known, people advise to kill the process itself.
You might want to try experimenting with different Proton versions, not sure whether it will help. You can also decrease some graphics settings in-game.
Nothing else to add.

Update on my situation. I did a little bit of research and ended up doing a clean install of Manjaro, instead of linux mint, and boy did that help. I still have to enter this command DRI_PRIME=1 steam to get steam to see my graphics card, but I can deal with that, unless there is a way to get steam to launch with that code just from the regular launcher.

But any ways, the game runs really good, but its like my mouse input is choppy. Its not the frames, the frames are good. But my mouse input in-game is not smooth, its choppy. Any Ideas on how to get that fixed?
