And it really does work!
On Ubuntu, I disabled Intel's P-State CPU driver by appending this to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT under /etc/default/grub:
intel_pstate=disable
Then I just updated GRUB2 like this:
sudo update-grub
Now just reboot!
So far, I could only test Project Cars with Proton 4.11, but it already ran absolutely stunning!
Previously, it would randomly stutter and slow down; now though, it's buttery smooth!
I should also add that I had already applied the following tweaks to my system, however it turns out that Intel's P-State CPU driver definitely was the biggest culprit for the random stutter & slow-down I was still experiencing!
Still, you should consider trying them out as well!
Tweaks:
- "lowlatency" Linux from Ubuntu
- "performance" CPU governor
- "Kyber" IO-scheduler
- "IRQbalance" removed
- Watchdog disabled
Be sure to try these improvements out aswell and report back!
Finally I can enjoy Linux gaming that runs way better than it does on Windows!
And to think that Intel's default CPU driver was the problem all along makes me seriously question their motives...
Don't know what it does. Is it save?
