After quite some issues connecting my linux systems to my old trusty zyxel NSA-325 NAS and having
issues connecting to shares on my ONE machine still running windows 8.1 I got a breakthrough :)

TMI to write but I finally got the SAMBA configuration right .

sudo apt install samba

goto /etc/samba and edit smb.conf with your favorite editor ( mine is notepadqq :))

goto the [global] section ( the first ) and insert this under it

[global]

## Browsing/Identification ###

# Change this to the workgroup/NT-domain name your Samba server will part of
workgroup = WORKGROUP
lanman auth = yes
ntlm auth = yes
client min protocol = NT1
client max protocol = SMB3

then reboot and connect ..
