If overriding that manually in Quake4Config.cfg, to "unlock" that, you also have to do
seta r_mode "-1"
Then you can set any arbitrary values for custom height and width (i.e. 1080 and 1920)
I'm mentioning this because I forget this almost every time I install one of these old quake engine games again and edit those values.
