Title: Incorrect monitor resolution as reported by Steam client
GustyGhost a day ago
I have been dealing with a minor but annoying issue after getting a new monitor. I've moved from a 4K monitor to a high refresh rate 2560x1440 monitor.

But the Steam client still thinks that my monitor is 4K

Primary Display Resolution: 4096 x 2304
Desktop Resolution: 4096 x 2304
Primary Display Size: 23.62" x 13.39"

This wouldn't be a problem as everything in-client works and scales well. But some games inherit their display resolution setting from Steam, which I then need to change to the actual 2560x1440 resolution.

Worse, a few games do not allow this setting to be changed. So my GPU is working overtime to render at a higher resolution that I no longer use, losing high FPS in the process. And I can't find any setting or any way to get Steam client to re-query my display resolution.

I tried perusing the Steam client files to see if there is a conf file I can just edit, but have been unsuccessful so far. Has anybody else experienced anything like this?

Display scaling set somewhere? 4096x2304 is about 1.6 times 2560x1440?

125% scaling in Gnome settings.

Which resolution does xrandr list as the current one?

It might be something like this problem?

Oh it does show as 4096x2304 that is quite interesting.

Screen 0: minimum 16 x 16, current 4096 x 2304, maximum 32767 x 32767
DP-3 connected primary 4096x2304+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 600mm x 340mm
   4096x2304    239.98*+

So this could be less of a Steam issue and more of a Gnome/Mutter/Wayland issue. This computer was provisioned while I'd still had a 4K monitor so most likely some holdover from that. Time to poke around.
