Sony PlayStation, Insomniac Games and Nixxes Software are bringing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to Steam as Sony continue bringing more console games to PC.
The interesting thing here is that their feature list mentioned how it will have many graphics quality options so you can tailor the experience to "a wide range of devices, all the way from high-end PCs to portable PC gaming devices" — Steam Deck anyone? Hopefully this will work nicely at release with Proton on Steam Deck and desktop Linux. It will have a pretty wide array of options like NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 2, Intel XeSS, Ray Tracing, ultra-wide support and much more. Sounds like they're really going all-out on this one.

Such an awesome time to be a gamer on PC, seeing many more previously console exclusive games arriving. Will this be something you'll be playing on desktop Linux or Steam Deck? Must admit it looks pretty good and the previous PlayStation reviews of it have been quite glowing.
You can follow it on Steam where it's available for pre-order.
Note: the article originally stated it released on July 29th which was incorrect, it launches July 26th. Apologies on the error.
sigh

Nevertheless Sony is going in the right direction with their IP's, maybe one day we'll live without exclusives.
And now they go bringing all these old franchises I love to PC and therefore also to Linux... which makes my wallet open. That's not cool Sony not cool!
I can't believe I am giving Sony money again

Though, I have accepted lately though that I have a game buying addiction problem (across multiple stores) so I am trying to put a stop to that

Actually, I wonder if this would mean that a particular cameo that I liked [External Link] would also appear on Steam at some point, too?

Although, I doubt this will work smooth on the Steam Deck. It's a game that requires a pretty performant GPU and NVME.
May Iron Galaxy have nothing to do with it. Amen
It's Nixxes
Besides that, fantastic Game, I played it already on PS5.
What I wonder more is that they can port it at all, as this game was a showcase for the fast SSD in the PS5 and the direct GPU access to the SSD. Either they have loading screens sometimes which the PS5 doesn't have or they can put all the needed Texturesin the VRAM somehow.

On a steam deck it's going to be running at lower resolution which will mean much smaller textures in VRAM + level steaming in systems like unreal can be pretty good at keeping loading time down or non-existent. There's been massive open world games with no or low loading time on PCs for over a decade now. Really just doing it with raw power by using an NVMe drive as scratch VRAM is actually a pretty lazy and unimpressive way to do loadscreen free gaming, IMO. AAA studios should strive for better programing than relying on raw power, but at the same time since it was console exclusive originally I couldn't fault them for going the lazy route since it worked on the only required hardware. Which in theory that's the benefit to console exclusive games, rather than having to optimize for tons of different possibilities you just have to make sure it works on one piece of hardware and your done.
Happy with this. Sony, bring them all!Honestly, I expected to see the earlier Ratchet & Clank games get ported before this one - I'd be happy if we got those too.

Now where's Sly Cooper?

Of the old classics Jak and Dexter needs a PC port / remaster too. :D

This already exists for Jak 1 as https://opengoal.dev/ [External Link]. Support for Jak 2 is currently being developed.

Interesting project. Since I had my ISO premade from the time I played Jak 1 on the PCSX2 emulator a few years back it was easy to setup too. Overall it seems to run way better than it did emulated.
While I'm glad that Sony is bringing these games to PC and has chosen Steam, it is a bit annoying that they are still treating PC players as a tertiary platform at best. Long delays between release on their console and PC, way more than technical necessity is grating especially if prices are still akin to a full priced new game. I had hoped that once they saw games sell quite well on Steam both in short term and over the long tail, they'd start with concurrent releases but that doesn't seem to be the case and we're still lacking many titles long released on PS5.
Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is one of my personal sticking points. The game has been out for quite a long time and for the past couple of years rumors of PC ports "just around the corner" have been flowing but nothing yet. The Director's Cut expansion adds quite a bit of new content and the game (both base and expansion) include a 4 player co-op alternate mode which would work very well on Steam. There was a rumor that the July release would be either this Ratchet and Clank game or Ghost of Tsushima so its a bit more disappointing, at least for me. Hopefully it will arrive soon.
Of course, the lack of concurrent releases is another problem. Both Spiderman Remastered and Spiderman: Miles Morales coming to PC last year after a couple years of PS4/PS5 exclusivity did very, very well. I was hoping that Sony would see there was a market, but this fall's upcoming Spiderman 2 sequel is releasing solely for PS5 and as far as I can tell its not a "one month PS5, next month PC" sort of thing for technical QA reasons. Sony just keeps insisting on focusing on their platform top to bottom, rather than admitting that some people may never buy a PS5 but would be happy to buy certain games were they available on PC (ideally via Linux friendly store platforms like Steam). Ah well, still every little bit is a step in the right direction; I do wish that the success of previous ones would quicken the pace though
