Valve released a fresh update to Proton Experimental for August 28th, bringing plenty of improvements for Windows games on Linux / SteamOS and Steam Deck. In case you missed it - Valve also recently updated the Proton 10 Beta too.

For Proton Experimental it will show up as an update in your Steam Downloads. Or, it will install automatically if Valve have it set by default for a game when you go to play it. Otherwise, search for Proton Experimental in your Steam Library to install it. Be sure to check out the GamingOnLinux guide for all the different Proton versions.

Noted to be now playable for the latest update:

  • Viking Rise: Valhalla.
  • Mary Skelter: Nightmares.
  • Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force.

Other improvements:

  • Improved performance in Rocket League and Unreal Tournament 3.
  • Updated Wine Mono to 10.1.0.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed dropdown menus closing immediately after opening them in Doom Eternal.
  • Fixed cutscene pausing / skipping in Dungeon Lords Steam Edition.
  • Fixed blue tint in Resident Evil Village videos.
  • Fixed Predecessor crashing after a recent game update.
  • Fixed short freezes happening every 5 min in Deadlock.
  • Fixed Proton Experimental regressions:
    • Phasmophobia should no longer have performance dips after joining a match.
    • Red Dead Redemption 2 should have working HDR again.
  • Fixed Proton 10 regressions:
    • Assetto Corsa EVO should no longer reset modified autocenter strength.
    • LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures should correctly load controller mapping when using Steam Input.
