A rogue-lite Stalker-like to play with friends designed to look like a game from retro consoles? You can sign me up for some MISERY right now. Set in a post-apocalyptic exclusion zone you have to scavenge abandoned locations, survive deadly anomalies and mutants, and try to survive another day in solo or with friends (5 players total).

While not based on Stalker directly, the inspiration is pretty darn clear. In fact, there was already a Stalker mod called Misery but they don't actually seem to be directly related.

How it works: you wake up in the basement of some sort of fallout bunker, and as you try to leave for the first time a siren goes off because a nuclear bomb is coming. The next 60 seconds become a mad-dash to collect a bunch of items to help you survive the rest of the game. Once ready and you extract before the 60 seconds are up, the real survival then begins as you enter into a rather spooky looking procedurally generated world full of anomalies.

This loop is quite interesting, although much like classic Stalker it's pretty brutal on the difficulty. The rogue-lite loop here does seem quite clever though, as you repeatedly go scavenging to craft new and improved items or go speak to some traders and then back you go for some more exploration. And as time goes on, you build up your shelter into something more useful too.

I'm keen to see a whole lot more from this one.

It has a Platinum rating on ProtonDB and Valve rated it Steam Deck Playable. In my testing, it worked just fine on Desktop Linux (Kubuntu 25.10) with Proton 9.
