Valve discontinuing the last Steam Deck LCD model

Valve have done this pretty quietly, but they're discontinuing the last Steam Deck LCD model now with just the Steam Deck OLED remaining.

There was no press announcement (we're waiting on a reply from Valve about it), and no announcement about it across anywhere else I can see. However, the official Steam Deck page now notes:

Note: We are no longer producing the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model. Once sold out, it will no longer be available.

Originally it just stated it in the USA, but today checking the store again it's now showing in the UK too so it seems to be pretty clearly confirmed to be happening.

Valve previously discontinued the other two LCD models with the 64GB and 512GB, so it was only a matter of time until they put all their focus into the much improved OLED version. Not really surprising it comes now either, with the price of various components skyrocketing thanks to AI companies - so streamlining their production makes sense there too.

Jumping from £349 to £479 isn't exactly steep for all the improvements available in the OLED though but still a big shame to see, because the LCD model was a cheap decent entry into the handheld gaming market, and a nice boost for SteamOS Linux adoption with Linux hitting an all-time high on Steam.

So if you were after a Steam Deck, now is the last time to grab the Steam Deck LCD 256GB on the Steam store.

It's already Out of Stock over here in Germany, so no chance to even get it anymore.

A 256GB OLED model would be nice to bridge the price gap a little bit. But it seems like Valve is focusing on 2 versions for their other hardware so it wouldn't be too surprising if it's gonna be the same for the Deck.
A shame for the budget option but hopefully they'll be able to keep the prices for the OLED ones consistent despite RAM insanity.

AI claim one more victim.
not that i wanted the LCD model anyway, but not only AI is taking people jobs now its making everything more expensive for the people who still have jobs.

What does AI have to do with the LCD model being discontinued? AI isn't affecting LCD production at all.

More likely people just weren't buying the LCD model enough to warrant the production costs for Valve.

Interesting that they say they are discontinuing the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model, and not Steam Deck LCD. I wonder if we will see a new version with an updated chip, motherboard, and cut back to 128GB to lower costs.
Wasn't one of the highlights of the new Steam Controller that the new analog sticks were both better and cheaper?
