News - Cyberpunk 2077 2.3 is out with new vehicles, auto drive, AMD FSR 4, Intel XeSS 2 and more
By TheRiddick, 18 Jul 2025 at 3:04 am UTC

It has a overwhelming amount of things you can do.
However I will say this, the relationship depth in the game, that is love affair system is basic.
You hook up with someone and have really only 2 or 3 identical things you can do as a couple in the game, getting to the level however has quite a bit of content, just not much of a payoff.

It would have been cool if you could have done missions and other activities with your partner in game that had a separate story branch itself (after the main blob that is). Definitely one of those situations where you can clearly tell when everything is wrapping up for endgame as you get railroaded towards just finishing the final mission.

News - Valve gets pressured by payment processors with a new rule for game devs and various adult games removed

Big payment processors already have too much control. While this content offends me, I despise allowing PayPal and Mastercard any say in what Valve does. Valve has proven to give much more of a darn about its customers than any payment processor.

I bought this during the recent Steam sale, and my opinion is that it's good but overrated. After the first few hours, which I really enjoyed, it basically becomes a typical Grand Theft/open world RPG. I think the reason it's praised so highly is because the developers were able to turn it around after its disastrous launch.

What kind of machines includes RISC-V processors?
(No, I dont want to google)
There are also some like:

@R Daneel Olivaw

I'm glad to see someone else actually acknowledges that they at least made *some* false promises about how the game was meant to be. I respect that you enjoyed it one hundred percent. And yup, I basically took the game as how you described it, "pretty much another ubi open world questapalooza". Not that this is a bad thing, but I don't enjoy this kind of game. So I don't think Cyberpunk will be for me. It's so refreshing to actually hear any kind of agreement that Cyperpunk's issues weren't solely bugs but that at least *some* of the promises they made on how the game would be didn't come to fruition.

As for No Man's Sky, this is an excellent comparison. People did a 180 and forgave that game, too. I have played a bit but it's very hard to enjoy properly knowing it's a similar situation to Cyperpunk 2077.

By R Daneel Olivaw, 17 Jul 2025 at 6:10 pm UTC

@sonic2kk - yeah I had the same initial reactions / feelings in the first year after launch. It was (still is and will always be) NOTHING AT ALL remotely even close to what they claimed it would be. Very similar to No Man's Sky in that regard. Everyone involved knew full well they were lying through their teeth but they just kept lying.

Fast forward to the big 1.5 patch, and I gave it a try. It was so much fun! I just had to get over the fact that it wasn't anything like what I was expecting, and it was just pretty much another ubi open world questapalooza. But so well done for what it was. I had a blast playing it from start to finish.

After a chaotic launch, they're still releasing patches 4 years later ?!

They should offer new free consistent content if they want players to get back into it. These are not 4 vehicles that are going to make me want to get back into it !!

Hey, maybe I'll finally actually go through it all the way now. Seems like a good time to do it.
Absolutely! I had been already good with patch 1.6 when I started to play it... and it got better and better. Haven't played the DLC yet, I'm already looking forward to play it when I find the time.
CDPR really knows how to tell stories, shape characters... aww, I envy you playing this for the first time. This game is a great experience!

@Boldos

Correct, unfortunately there's no x86 drivers for the iGPUs in these boards. In some cases, felix86 can make use of those GPUs via thunking (ie. using the RISC-V userspace drivers -- calling into host libGL instead of guest etc) although because they only have GLES like you said, in some cases you'd have to use a compatibility layer like GL4ES. And even still, the PowerVR drivers just aren't great. So a lot of stuff won't work this way.

Personally I test stuff on an AMD GPU and hope that eventually we'll get better iGPUs with proper drivers and better support for GPUs overall (read: without needing to tinker with drivers/kernel patches or hacks)

Just for info, you can use FSR4 if you use the latest ProtonGE as well as passing PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 as environment variable when launching the game.

It tried both on the last of us Part 1 and Cyberpunk 2077, works like a charm.

News - Mesa 25.1.6 and Mesa 25.2.0 RC1 are now available for Linux graphics drivers
By sonic2kk, 17 Jul 2025 at 4:22 pm UTC

Always nice to see stable fixes, but it's also good to note that Mesa-git is usually available and good to run. There were PPAs for Ubuntu and friends back in the day, I believe it's also available on Fedora in some capacity though I forgot the term for packages there (it can be used on Nobara a bit more easily iirc or maybe even by default). I use it from Chaotic AUR on Arch on my PC and laptop.

Being bleeding edge has its risks, but a nice option to call out for those (like me) who prefer the trade-off of stability for the latest and greatest. I haven't had any issues using Mesa-git on my Arch system personally.

I remember when this was hyped up over the years leading to its release. It was supposed to be the cutting-edge of choices-matter gameplay, with dialogue that shaped every playthrough in near-infinite ways, with state-of-the-art NPC interactions. No fixed story.

From what I have seen and what I played at launch, it is not that. It is an open-world game that is not the New-Vegas-like choices matter story. Yet people seem to have forgiven it.

Perhaps it is a good game on its own merits, but too much of the criticism over the years was on the bugs at launch and not the fact that the core game was not what we were promised over through delay after delay.

I don't think I'll ever be able to stomach a playthrough. I couldn't even stomach Edgerunners despite being a huge Studio Trigger fan.

There's been some interesting developments going on with making FSR 4 work on RDNA 3 hardware. Obviously it requires quite a bit of performance tradeoffs compared to RDNA 4 but it's getting to a point where it seems to produce better results than XeSS.

Once everything is merged and easily available, it might be a good time for me to replay the game and tackle the DLC.

This game is always the topmost #1 entry in every single package management app ever because of its name, so I have been seeing this app listed in stores for YEARS.

Kinda makes me want to try it out even though RTS' aren't even my thing.

It really is such an awesome game. The story is laughable, but everything else is just so well done. (well. *most* everything else lol)

I don't know how you stopped part-way through Liam! Once it got its hooks into me, I was done for. Finished it without touching anything else.

Well, although encouraging, I remain skeptical:
Majority of today's (useable) RISC-V SBCs have integrated Imagination/PowerVR GPUs, and for those AFAIK there are no real functional drivers available (meaning drivers with HW accel capabilities).

Moreover, these GPUs only support OpenGL ES (e.g. mobile OpenGL, not "full" OpenGL). And (again AFAIK) Vulkan drivers are nowehre near ready... Even the desktop environments (and thus UI apps) do not have proper HW accel performance available...

So I'm not sure what exactly do Bianbu guys mean by the statement, or what they actually did/tried... emoji

(Yes, it is possible to "McGyver" yourselves a proper GPU (usually old AMD grraphics) onto the PCIe slot - if your RISC-V SBC actually has any - and then try&miss and tinker with drivers and make it work... but there is absolutely zero official and/or standard support for this anyway...)

The removable rechargeable battery is gone as is AA battery support.

Wow, I didn't see that. Well, they don't advertise this on the official comparison chart, just 1000mAh vs 1000mAh. That sucks... Removable buttons are great but removable battery is a must for longevity of the device. I guess Pro 2 is still the king of symmetrical gamepads.
