Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia confirmed for Linux, from Feral Interactive
By STiAT, 19 February 2018 at 2:07 pm UTC

Quoting: Mountain ManIs this going to be substantially different from any other Total War game? Seems like if you've played one Total War game, you've pretty much played them all.

It will be about the same, there are some changes to certain aspects as recruiting, technology etc.
https://www.pcgamer.com/thrones-of-britannia-makes-significant-changes-to-the-total-war-formula/

That said, it will be roughly the same as all others still. That's not necessarily a bad thing, since the game has success and it's fans are asking for more.

I'm looking forward to this, always wanted to make a Viking Kingdom in Britain and I like the mix of the strategic map mixed with real time battles.

Maybe even a Vulkan port? Probably not, because they very likely have the engine ported to OpenGL for older Total War games which run good enough too. But we'll see.

If you want to support Feral Interactive or other porters, you MUST buy it on Linux and play their games on Linux platform within 2 weeks after buy. If you're not playing ported games on Linux within 2 weeks after buy or playing them another operating system (No metter Windows or WINE), all money goes to game creators, not for their porters.
So you MUST play Linux games within to weeks after buy.
It's not my opinion, it's Aspyr official answer on question how they get profit from Steam.
So, my friends, after buying Linux game, we must (or should if you arn't agree) play it on Linux first two week.

ps. any hope feral can put hands on Ark survival evolved?
Why would they need to? The game already runs on Linux and is arguably more native then their ports. It isn't very well optimized and has some bugs but that's just ark on all platforms
The word Optimize seems to be unknown to the Ark developers.

"Thrones of Britannia makes significant changes to the Total War formula", they say (+ video. I wouldn't believe too much of that until the release and the first reviews, though. If you're not into the genre, it might still not be too interesting.

Wine Staging is no longer putting out new releases
By Mountain Man, 19 February 2018 at 1:47 pm UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: AsuI so want the wine project dead. (I respect the devs tho.)
Please don't buy software that has no mac or linux client.
This is assuming that the only reason more developers aren't supporting Linux is because of Wine. I doubt that's the case.

Quoting: Crazy PenguinHopefully with functioning cross platform multiplayer.

I don't see Creative Assembly changing anything in their system for the sake of Mac and Linux ports. So this is unlikely to happen.

Not Really a game for me, but really good to see closer to windows release schedule. Can you play on the side of the Vikings there though? that would be much better imo :P

Total War: WARHAMMER was the only Total War Game i actually enjoyed, but because the story interested me as i have been always a fan of Warhammer Fantasy Setting. So WARHAMMER 2 would be much better for me.

Anyway good to see another Linux port poping up.

Wine Staging is no longer putting out new releases
By Alm888, 19 February 2018 at 12:25 pm UTC

I use whatever WINE version is bundled with the distro and don't care which it is as long as all of the games I own have PLATINUM rating at WINEDB (and I always make sure the game I want to get has that rating). It is a lot easier this way, than trying to make WINE work, and I'm too old for all that custom launch keys/version mactchmaking/DLL scavenging/winetricks BS. ;)

I'll purchase this just to support Feral, most likely won't be playing it though. Not enough patience blessed me for these neither.

So you all owe this one to me, I guess! ;)

Huge fan of the series, so I'm on board! I was getting worried about the new total war titles..this announcement is reassuring! Pleasantly surprised also by the "shortly after Windows" quote!

PS: I am also waiting for warhammer 2..

Quoting: yar4eNot again!) I think it's enough strategy games for Linux already.. Sorry Feral, but i ain't buy this game.

I'm not into them either. I might have given this one a try - if I wouldn't be as much out of time as I am.
I'm happy Feral seems to do fine with these ports, though, as long as they emit a Tomb Raider or Life is Strange from time to time. ;)

Wine 3.2 released with gamepad improvements and more Direct3D work
By Arehandoro, 19 February 2018 at 11:43 am UTC

Quoting: Shmerl
Quoting: ArehandoroDoes anyone know why Wine 3.1 or 3.2 even has not made yet to Debian sid?

For Debian, use WineHQ repo. Maintainers update Wine packages very rarely for it in the Debian repo.

I have WineHQ but my latest version is 3.0 anyway :/

Will have to check whether I fiddled with sources at some point and don't remember.

Thanks though!

I'm still waiting for Total War: Warhammer 2.
The first one is excellent as a game and as a port made by Feral.

This is still the good news.

Total War games aren't really my thing. I bought one of them to support Feral, but it's obvious that I don't have the time and patience for it these days. But it didn't replace one of the unknown hints on the Feral radar, so there is still more to look forward to!

We were a bit short of Feral announcments lately, but it's surely getting better!
And I like the sound of "shortly after Windows release" (yes, I know which one would be even better ;) ).

Although, it looks more polished than GB.

I might give this a shot
