Tooth and Tail updated with GOG & Steam compatible multiplayer
By hatniX, 28 September 2017 at 2:23 pm UTC

It would be nice, if someone from GOG would say something about the status of Galaxy for Linux. Because is seems this is not the only game that misses the Linux version on GOG for that reason.

So this arena mode is DOTA like? I always thought that would have been the killer feature on release day :)

hmm doesn't look very DOTA like after all...

Sad to see that it the GNU/Linux version is not on GOG. Overall this is very good news though and it looks like a great game. Gonna buy it today.

I will need a how-to to install that thing. Never been able to make it work on Kubuntu. I see the SC icon in the apps but clicking on it does nothing at all.

Do we still have to stop it before launching Steam?

Edit: Oh! The OpenSuse build service is available again... Had the 404 error last time I checked. Going to give it a shot.

I've got an example in the other direction. The extremely awesome paint application Krita. New features are added with the help of a yearly kickstarter. Anyone who chooses not to support the kickstarter gets to download the application for free, no features withheld whatsoever. This program is slowly getting better than anything I have ever seen before.

You're old! At least we used a Philips P2000! Oh wait, oops.

I find these pseudo retro thingies quite funny. On the surface they may appear to be limited like old computers, but when you have a more detailed look, they're still much more advanced than what we had back then. I still enjoy programming for the old 80s systems though.

TBH I never understood why people make such a noise about 32bit libs. Why don't you just install them? I selected '32bit libs' on system install and have never been bothered by any 32bit game not running due to missing (standard) libs.
Yes, it uses some space. Much less than any medium sized game though. So what?

Amused that the name "TIC-80" is very similar to Commodore's "VIC-20". Here's a bit of VIC-20 nostalgia:

Atari are launching a new gaming system, the 'Ataribox' and it runs Linux

D'oh!!! Posted to the wrong thread... should have been in the SPAZ 2 announcment...

Atari are launching a new gaming system, the 'Ataribox' and it runs Linux
By stretch611, 28 September 2017 at 10:56 am UTC

I saw that thread announcing this as well. The first comment of the thread was:
QuoteBlorf [developer] May 1, 2014 @ 12:17pm
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, then yup. Making a Linux build "should" be a matter of us clicking the Linux build option and pressing build. Unity is very handy for that whole nasty porting business :)

Good thing he uses a smiley...

One other important note from the Developer:

QuoteImportant Note: SPAZ 2 is not a direct sequel to SPAZ 1. It is a new game with brand new gameplay mechanics but is set in the same universe with the same cast. SPAZ 2 is themed around scavenging and survival and the mechanics reflect that. Those looking for a direct SPAZ 1 sequel will not find it here. Those looking to try something new, certainly will find that. :)

That being said, I'll probably get it with my next splurge of game buying. I thought the first one was quite enjoyable... while he says this one is different and the trailer is true to that thought, I'm interested enough to check it out.

Support yes, but there are at least three different drivers, some of which are very difficult to configure.

Quoting: NyamiouI can certainly understand them, piracy is a real problem and they want to do something about it, but that's not the way. Actually the whole war on piracy never fixed anything, it most probably made it worse, as long as they can't change the mindset of pirates the problem is never going to go away and this is not helping.

well.. actually, an EU report stated that piracy isn't a problem at all:
https://thenextweb.com/eu/2017/09/21/eu-paid-report-concluded-piracy-isnt-harmful-tried-hide-findings/#.tnw_f90lLQ56
QuoteOn the contrary, in the case of video games, the study found the opposite link, indicating a positive influence of illegal game downloads on legal sales.

so as for video games: long live piracy!

Quoting: Guppywonder why they chose such low res - modex/MCGA was 320x200, this is half that
It's even less than Speccy has (256x192)! Still, reducing the available resource pool quite often results in games shining in other areas like gameplay mechanics, replayability, content galore and catchy music (and vice versa!). Isn't that what we all long for?

Also, demoscene, 64 Kb compos and stuff. Sadly, it's not as popular and impressive these days as it used to be in 2000's.

Space Pirates And Zombies 2 now has a Linux beta available
By Sir_Diealot, 28 September 2017 at 8:54 am UTC

I gladly beta-test Linux versions of games, but I won't buy to test. I've even relaxed my anti-steam policy to "use it if testing requires it" for testing Crashlands and Region of Ruins, but I still won't buy anything there.

As for the game, I played a bunch of S.P.A.Z. and it wasn't bad, but got grindy. This trailer shows mostly the new 3D graphics, which looks cool, but probably is hell for actually playing it. I hope you'll still be able to play top-down (parts of the video suggest that).

Space Pirates And Zombies 2 now has a Linux beta available
By Eike, 28 September 2017 at 8:46 am UTC

QuoteThis is day 1 of the beta test, so please be gentle. We will fix things as quickly as we can, but we are new to both Mac and Linux. These builds have both been tested on a grand total of 1 machine each.

This does sound nice and please, do be gentle...

... but I wonder how new they could be to Linux when the same guy already posted about the Linux port of the first SPAZ. :)

There's now a Linux build of Unity 2017.3, with a new installer
By Sir_Diealot, 28 September 2017 at 8:26 am UTC

Oh, there's Unity for Linux now?
Guess I'll have to take a look at it then.
I'll still hate it, but I'll at least have a more informed opinion.

What I find funny is that they don't even aknowledge its existence on their beta download page. You can only find some old blog posts and a forum thread.

Well, maybe it helps some devs stuck on Unity to better debug the Linux version of their games.
