Trying the experimental GCN 1.0 support in AMDGPU
By KuJo, 19 June 2017 at 9:39 pm UTC

I have the same problem with the purple line (AMD r9 280 (Tahiti). But I had'nt assigned this to the AMDGPU driver. Until now.

A quick google-search with the key-words "purple line amdgpu" found this:
-> https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=222447
-> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97861
-> https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=196782

The error is due to that AMDGPU not yet supports the HMDI-audio chip that is placed on several of the GCN graphics cards.

I have not tried it myself, but if you turn off the audio support, then this line should disappear.

Quoting: harshbarjThere's also no reason to think they will be supporting Linux either. Their track record looks rather dismal.

To be fair, that track record goes a long time back, long before Linux were even remotely relevant as a gaming platform. Personally I don't think we should judge any gaming company on what they did for Linux in the pre-Steam era, ergo before 2013.

None of which come close to helping solve issues that Flatpak is aimed at.

You need to disable HDMI audio in order to get rid of the blurriness\pink strip.
Something like "xrandr --output HDMI-1 --auto --set audio off" should suffice.

Also, in this case, the newer the better.
Mesa-dev and amd-staging-4.11 + AMDGPU used to work ok with my R9 280X (performance was about the same as radeon). I did rolled back to radeon though, as there is no many reasons to keep using amdgpu as it stands right now (also, no UVD\VCE yet afaik). Maybe in the future.

Purple line on the left side and otherwise a strange color can be due to outputing HDMI to a DVI panel. I've seen a lot of panels with arm systems that needed a forced DVI output to get correct color and sync.

It's generally unsafe to hand money to a development team with no proven track record. People doing that need to acknowledge that there is a very strong chance that such a project will fail. There might still be grounds for doing it anyway if people -really- want that project to happen, but they should treat it like the subprime investment it is.

Personally I have backed quite a number of projects, but my personal rule is never to give money to a team unless they have a proven track record as game developers in general AND can show me convincing evidence that they are able to deploy on Linux.

Not only this BUT the base game is also 60% off on Steam sale right now.

And 50% off in GOG sale.

Lowest price I've seen it to date - at Steam. Think I might have to grab it.

*.MSİ *.EXE *.BAT files as in windows. also tgz deb pisi rpm much more native i guess.
meanwhile snappy package format much more better developped for Ubuntu Linux and has more packages why bother with flatpak or appimage or something else along the way. plus containering sandboxing is good but what about library loading and usage with these library container package formats ?

i mean we have to have Common Standarts For linux distrubutions. so we can advance much more faster then ever.

Are you saying you bought it before it worked on Linux? I don't understand why you say this game is being "added" to a list of games you'll "never" play. Clearly, the developer never said they gave up.

I've been, I guess, medium interested in this game for the past several years. If it came out to Linux, I would strongly consider buying and playing it for the reason Liam mentioned: 3D RPG's on Linux are rare.
knee jerk reaction is all it was, pay me no heed. ;)

Story mode in coop, is a top feature for this kind of game. Really the kind of stuff modern fps lack. These guys from New World Interactive have always done top quality work for Linux/Mac and I'm really looking forward for this one.

This should work without a problem (my games are on a /mnt/-mounted partition). But you have to allow access to the directory with --filesystem=<DIRECTORY> (either via flatpak run for each application start or flatpak override to persist the setting) or else you won't be able to access it.
Well that sounds rather unfriendly, hope they make that much easier in future.

What benefit would Steam gain from being 64-bit? You can install and run 64-bit software through Steam, so what does it matter if Steam itself is 64-bit?

Can anyone confirm if this works with Games not installed on /home drive ? I have my games on a larger mounted HDD. This works for me as the drive is partitioned and contains other files too. Having to use the Home drive would kind of suck for me, not only that it means my distro hopping gets a lot more convoluted as i either have to re-download my games / mods each time i rebuild or copy the files to a larger disc and back again hoping that there is no corruption and/or permission issues ( I have had the "steam library folder must be on a filesystem mounted with execute permissions" bug before when moving in this manner on new systems. Also the 'backup feature doesn't work on Steam )

As an aside i also just like to keep as many non system folders and files off my main root drive as possible for reasons.

This is very cool news :)

I have to admit that flatpak seems much easier to use now than when it first came out. And due to that I no longer have much of an opinion as to which universal distribution model becomes the dominant one :)

Judging by this comment, it seems they plan to update the project to mention Linux:
Quote@Rance Justice thank you for the comment! You make a stunning case for Linux, and we are more excited than ever to support the platform. You make many great points and you are absolutely right that you should not have stumble upon the comment. We will be updating the kickstarter and the FAQ to be clear about this. Best of luck to you as well!
Still, I'm not in the habit of spending money on something that clearly doesn't exist. The team also sound rather inexperienced. I have a very bad feeling about it.

Quoting: g000hWaiting for the day that Steam client for Linux is 64 bit..

That's less important though, considering you will have to have 32 bit libraries to be installed due of majority of games being 32-bit anyway.

As for importance - this means Steam can be installed from one package on newest Debian, Fedora, RedHat Enterprise and other distributions supporting stable flatpak.

I think that's quite an achievement considering Steam Linux gaming picking up steam.
