Future Stardock games may come to Linux thanks to Vulkan
By chepati, 10 March 2017 at 1:12 pm UTC

Quoting: M@yeulCWell, DOTA 2 has a Vulkan renderer as well, and I think that's all for now. (There are some games that use the experimental Unity Vulkan renderer, I think, but I don't know which ones, and that's still experimental).

Ah, forgot about this one. Already downloading and will try it when I get home tonight.

Thanks!

Quoting: liamdaweIt also has a new grouping system on the menu, so you can team up with your friends before going into battle.

Why more games don't make this option available I'll never know. That these devs have added it and challenging co-op vs AI (PvAI?) impresses me enough to add them to my wishlist and follow their development.

The art is refreshingly adorable, but the jaded gamer in my brain has already walked away mumbling about "...another 2D flying shooty thing." (He burned out on the genre in 1983 around his 1,500th hour of Asteroids on the Atari 2600, so his opinion on these matters bears little objectivity.)

I'm sure it's a very nice game made by lovely people from upstanding families and, for those who are keen on such things, worth looking forward to.

Quoting: chepatiFor some reason I get no sound output. In Settings/Audio I get NOSOUND under Driver (quoting from memory). For the life of me I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Have all the pulseaudio 32bit libraries too.

However, I got a few games where sound doesn't work: Book of Unwritten Tales 2, Don't Starve, etc.

Must be a simple thing I'm overlooking...

All three games you mentioned are working for me with PulseAudio.

Quoting: Spl-itI actually got excited for a moment when I saw the trailer, until it showed the unity3d icon... I think we've all had our share of unity3d kickstarter projects that get developed on windows where the devs are "really excited" about a linux build.

Lets just hope this one really does make it to linux and doesnt have the performance of a 3 legged donkey on acid.

3 legged donkeys on acid?
We should be so lucky!
We usually only get the corpses of donkeys semi-melted with acid by devs who want to remove all evidence they ever said anything about a Linux port. XD

At least Linux wasn't a stretch goal but I myself will steer clear of the Kickstarter, as usual.

Quoting: GuestHas anyone completed the game but still not finished most of the sidequests?
I need a savegame like that, my savegame is corrupted and it's not giving me the 100% completion on deep fria's territory, that means i can't get all the achievements.

Quoting: EikeStopped to play it after 10 hours max. Ubisoft formula crap. Don't buy it. :)
Maybe you had some savegame that i can use? Or you didnt completed so much?

I don't think I got there, but I can take a look.

I've played it for 84 hours, done lots of the side quests, and completed the main quest. Still got plenty of side quests to finish off. Very enjoyable throughout. Liked the upgrades, the car customisations, the way the fighting worked. Very happy with the graphics, the setting, voice acting, background music. It's a well constructed premium title that plays well.

My couple of niggles were: The climbing/jumping mechanic could have been better. I found it a bit irritating the slow-down when you take out a gun to aim it. Hunting around for all quest items in each quest location was somewhat painful/grindy.

HITMAN released for Linux, initial port report and two gameplay videos

Quoting: lucifertdarkI just finished the main storyline of Season1 & I need to know something, when is Season 2 coming? are they working on it already?

Likely in March, early summer, if I were to guess.

I've said this in other places, but there's a 99% chance Season 2 will be day one for Linux, given the Way Hitman is designed to be an all-encompassing, always online game thingy.

Once, but I'm one of those weird people who just can't help but thoroughly explore every nook and cranny. Also beat every racing challenge and whatnot.

The trailer looks good, the action gameplay is awesome.
As said before in other threads regarding this topic, I await these dlc's eagerly, especially the Motörhead one, as I am a big Motörhead fan. But I don't think I will pick them up on release, I will wait until a sale on Steam. I have enough to play until they are on sale :D

Still only 1€/h, not bad. ;)

But seriously, if you dislike the Ubisoft/WB style third person open world action + exploration genre, or want all your gaming experiences be deep and involving, you might want to skip it. The rest of you will not be disappointed.

I get this annoying lag / split second studder every time text is displayed. Like picking up items or leveling up and launching the inventory menu. It definitely wasn't there with the first release. I mentioned it on their community forums last year and it was never fixed.

Quoting: chepatiOther than The Talos Principle, is there another game (Steam or GOG hosted) I can try now, not in the future, that has a working Vulkan renderer? I just set up Vulkan on my PC (NVidia card) and want to verify that it works. It's akin to learning to play the piano, without the piano, at the moment :-)

Well, DOTA 2 has a Vulkan renderer as well, and I think that's all for now. (There are some games that use the experimental Unity Vulkan renderer, I think, but I don't know which ones, and that's still experimental).

Now, I really like Stardock games. I hope they will start porting them!

I wouldn't mind a wine port for their older games as well. Sins of A Solar Empire runs quite well with it, if I recall correctly.
Could you ask them in a follow-up, Liam? I guess I could also do it myself...

Last time I asked one of their devs in a GC III Twitch session he said that he hadn't heard anything about them planning to port GC to Linux (about 3 months ago). He suggested to ask Brad (Wardell) though.

Quoting: buenaventuraAny tips on how to gain a good collection, any noob mistakes to avoid when building it?
Since I've started playing the game (last august), things have evolved a bit: there was a good amount of gold to get with solo quests and I think the devs lowered it but I guess you still get quite enough. So you might want to start with these. (EDIT: looking at the 1.0 patch notes, I see that they changed the solo mode again, so I'm not sure of how it works now − as I've completed it a long time ago − but it's still a good idea to complete it first before really starting to play games.)

Apart from that, it's like HearthStone: do your daily quests and you might be able to get packs pretty fast.

Not sure how much competitive you want to play but if it's just for fun, you should be able to find decent low cost decks; check resources on the Faeria subreddit, faeria.com and playfaeria.com. At first, I wouldn't dust cards (unless you have more than three of them, or more than one for legendaries) to try to make the meta decks, just build your collection over time with what you get from packs. Unlike HearthStone, I don't think there are completely trash or "fun" cards that are intentionally designed as crap. Of course (and like HearthStone), people mainly play archetypes with cards that have the most value and there are tons of cards that are never played.

A good way to get a bit of free gold and packs too is to watch the official Faeria tournament on Twitch each month (except this march), you'll have a random chance to get prizes just by watching. It will take hours but you can just keep the Twitch tab open in your browser and do something else (you'll have to associate your Steam account to your Twitch one in the settings).

If you're willing to put a bit of money in the game, the currently discounted Steam pack can be interesting (but not really at full price).

Stellaris is to gain some really useful features in the free patch coming soon
By lidstah, 10 March 2017 at 10:24 am UTC

Quoting: PhiladelphusI've been watching Stellaris since before it came out, but hadn't been able to afford it yet. However I'm just starting a new job and the 1.5 update and Utopia seem like a really great time to get into it. :)

If you love 4X space games… It's a must have :). I can't wait for Utopia (although I should get the Plantoid DLC, too) either, I managed to befriend a Fallen Empire (which is now Awaken by the way) just to watch their ring worlds.

I've just beaten the Unbidden ("Extradimensionnal beings" ) yesterday evening (tip: make a 75K fleet, take one of their fleets out, send a scientist to research on the debris, then research extradimensionnal weapons and jump drive (better than the distortion drive), while you repair your fleet, then take over another of their fleets, research debris again: huge boost in the weapon research, extradimensionnal weapons in 6 monthes, equip your 75K fleet with it, ho, it's now a 100K+ fleet, then proceed by taking out all their fleets one by one and finish by destroying their portal. Bonus: everybody in the Galaxy now loves my repugnant fanatic collectivists xenophiles esclavagists arthropoïds :])
