this looks promising, I haven't seen anything that indicates Paladins could come to Linux so this could be the next best thing.

Mesa has a patch from a Valve developer to help ARK Survival Evolved run on the open source drivers
By jf33, 5 February 2017 at 9:23 pm UTC Likes: 1

If you're Valve and find a bug in a game and you can't make the developers fix it, then please don't mess up Mesa drivers, which are written to comply with the OpenGL specification. Why not implementing the workaround in Steam? Steam is not written against any spec. It's supposed to just make games work. So this is where you should implement such hacks.

Fair enough. I've never played Call of Duty, so I have no idea how it plays.

Quoting: WorMzyI'm curious what you think of CounterStrike: GO and TF2 then. CounterStrike was the major multiplayer shooter when I was younger, and although TF2 is more of a hat simulator these days, I hear it still has shooter and multiplayer elements.

"major multiplayer shooters" being code for Call of Duty. Sorry, but I consider Counter Strike to be in a different class entirely.

EDIT: To elaborate, CoD is basically the Mario Kart of FPS in that it levels the playing field with all sorts of BS perks and drops and killstreaks whereas Counter Strike essentially has no skill ceiling.

This site is the only reason I bought the game. Ballistic is the closest thing we have to the major multiplayer shooters.

Quoting: Nor MantisNice!

I am going to have to look into this game now. With this server and Ark is there a community voice chat server like Mumble or anything similar?

We have discord: https://discord.gg/0rxBtcSOonvGzXr4
And Mumble: mumble.gamingonlinux.com

I'm generally not on the mumble, that's just there if the community need it.

Quoting: Colomboits not RTS, its not RTS, its RTT!
Perhaps, but I'm not pedantic enough to truly care all that much. It's still a strategy game, that's played in real time (with optional pause in single-player). We don't know if the online modes will have any base building or resource system, as they haven't said.

Either way, it looks amazing so far.

I must be pedantic, because I can't stand RTT, but I love RTS. I was born as zerg and zerging is the way I live. You can't obviously zerg in RTT:/

I have to agree. Knowing the difference between tactics and strategy can help determine which games you are more likely to enjoy. For instance, Dawn of War II was a bit of a let down for me because I was expecting a strategy game (it's mostly tactics though).

To those who are interested here is an article explaining the difference.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire announced, has crowdfunding campaign

Wow, that looks and sounds beautiful again (I really like the voice acting of Matthew Mercer). And it just made me continue playing Pillars of Eternity. ^^

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and XCOM 2 are both super cheap this weekend
By Plintslîcho, 5 February 2017 at 5:58 pm UTC

Kind of a shame that the price for a relatively new game like Deus Ex deteriorated so quickly.
But I also have to admit that Deus Ex: MD never gripped me like its predecessor did. I played through Human Revolution multiple times but I have yet to finish Mankind Divided. Problem is, I simply don't feel like playing the game. For some reason I don't find it interesting enough.

DiRT Rally announced for Linux, arriving on March 2nd

Quoting: Ehvis
Quoting: TobiSGD@jith_feral: Now the most important question for me: Will the port have the same restrictions as the Deus Ex port and need SSSE3 to run?

As I understand it, this restriction came from the original game, not from the port. Since I haven't heard about any such requirement from this game, it should be fine.
Nope, from what I have read the game runs just fine on Phenom IIs on Windows, this is a Linux only issue, and it would be very sad if that will now be also the case for Dirt Rally.
Oh, and before I get the same "your CPU is to slow to run the game anyways" that seems to be the theme on the Steam forums, my X6 easily outperforms the Core i3-4130 that is given as a minimum in the system requirements for Deus Ex.

Double Fine confirm that Full Throttle Remastered will see a Linux version after the Windows release
By Plintslîcho, 5 February 2017 at 5:38 pm UTC

Heck yeah! That's some phantastic news!

I enjoyed playing the game back in 1995 and would love to play it again.
Hope though that the player will again be able to choose between the remastered and old graphics as I do prefer the original pixel graphics over any revamped graphics.

This game looks great, but what I'd like to see is something along the lines of Myth... Loved that game! Loki released Myth 2 for Linux at one point. It's one of the few RTS games that you don't just manufacture your troops, and you have to try to keep them alive because they level up as you progress through the story. Definitely adds an epic level of difficulty, and fun. Most RTS games you just don't care about your troops because you can churn out more, probably why I haven't really gotten into any of them. Warwind by SSI was another great game (though for some reason it performed rather poorly back when the second was released, and a guy I know... *laughs* said that SSI doesn't make very good strategy games. Oh how I miss SSI...)
