Epic Games founder thinks Microsoft will essentially break Steam in later versions of Windows 10

Quoting: dmantioneIn this case the use of "PC" can be seen as correct: If Microsoft succeeds to close the software part of PC's, why keep the hardware open so people can escape to Linux? Microsoft ARM based hardware is already closed.
No, he's specifically talking about Windows and Microsoft possibly forcing people to use the Windows store. It is not PC, it is Windows.

I've been really disappointed in Epic with the development of Paragon. They used the Unreal engine that was supposed to be cross-platmorm compatible then added proprietary code and now they won't make a Linux version because they don't have the resources to test it and they're not sure they can port that proprietary code to Linux. It's the dumbest excuse I think they can make. So I can't see how they can make a statement like that about Microsoft when they are essentially doing the same thing. Agghhh!

QuoteSlowly, over the next five years, they will force-patch Windows 10 to make Steam progressively worse and more broken. They’ll never completely break it, but will continue to break it until, in five years, people are so fed up that Steam is buggy that the Windows Store seems like an ideal alternative.

So they'll inject bugs into the Steam client, which will not only deter people from buying games on the Steam storefront, but also make the individual games they've bought over Steam perform worse?

I think what he's trying (clumsily) to allude to is an iOS-style prohibition on non-store binaries altogether -- but that would be a huge move, much bigger than games, or Steam, or what have you. Mac users have been alarmed about this ever since Mountain Lion introduced the option to block out-of-store binaries in System Preferences. I don't know whether that's become the default option now (haven't used a Mac since 'Mavericks' ) but even Apple doesn't seem to be taking that extreme route in their desktop line.

Quoting: liamdaweNote: You may have issues if you previously purchased them from bundles and other random stores. VP has reached out to Codemasters to add Linux to them.

New Steam sales are not affected and will download. So no need to hold off.

I just bought all three, I have the missing executable error for all three.

Yeah same here for Overlord 1, definetely not working.
I'm gonna wait a few days for them to fix it up and if it's still broken I'll get a refund.

The performance in the new Beta seems much better than the last one. I was getting about 20 more FPS on the benchmark than before.

Why would Stadew Valley's issues be on playstarbound.com? What have I missed?
Chucklefish (starbound dev) published Stardew Valley and are helping port it with another company.
That explains it, thanks.

Your card and distro are both unsupported. However it does sound like a bug you might see if you have incorrect drivers installed which are missing features.

Make sure you have Mesa 11.2 installed and that your drivers have support for OpenGL 4.x If you are using an older distro you might be using drivers compiled with an older LLVM meaning you won't have 4.x GL support.

Game seems to instantly crash just after the lighthouse intro section when effects quality is anything but low. Other settings can be maxed without any ill effects.

Aaaaand . . . nope.

A ~120MB download for the first OL, followed by a missing executable.. not so unexpected considering the vp installer size was ~2GB..

Also 0b downloads when trying the other 2.

Don't buy from Steam (yet)..

Edit: Just to be clear, I bought the classic pack for $20 like half an hour before posting, AFTER it had a SteamOS icon added. Also, still nothing but if something changes, I will edit this as soon as I notice.

Edit 2: Overlord 1 is working now, gamepad support included.. Didn't have time to try the 2nd, but it was also downloading 2GB so I assume it's also working fine.. Kudos to VP for a very good and stable port!

There is a Nvidia driver issue with the Pascal chipset (from the internet this effects a number of games in different ways). We are working on the issue both at Feral and with Nvidia to investigate a workaround or driver fix.

I've played Both Overlord titles extensively on Windows & while Overlord II isn't as good as the first one it's still well worth having, I bet there'll be complaints on here about the baby seals though. ;)

I'm getting the old "missing executable" error on all of them at the moment, so they're not quite there yet, hopefully within the next few hours they'll be playable.
