New Steam Client Beta adds fixes for 'upcoming' Vulkan games

The latest Steam Hardware Survey shows a rather insignificant drop for Linux

I use video card from AMD. And after upgrading to Ubuntu version 04.16 LTS no more proprietary drivers for this version.
It would only change the driver for the MESA opensource version (should be so) happens that many games can not be ok if behaving the opensource driver MESA. beeping whenever I'm not using the proprietary driver.

Another thing, in my case I have two plates of integrated videos (one for energy saving in the Intel case and one for video rendering if AMD) and Linux can not force the use of video rendering via AMD is not using AMD's proprietary software that forces the use of this. No support will this on Ubuntu.

Quoting: minidouany suggestion on MMORPG that runs natively on linux or without much trouble through wine?
I play Star wars the old republic through wine, and as far as I know World of warcraft also runs perfectly through wine. But as far as I know there aren't currently any _good_ mmorpg games that run natively on linux...

Yeah, pretty much this. There is not a single really good MMO natively running on Linux (Runescape probably the closest to that you can get), but people report having success running some of them in Wine. In addition to the two you mentioned, Star Trek Online and Guild Wars 2 run ok in Wine as well (both with minor glitches, but playable).

Quoting: aFoxNamedMorrisGood to know you understand the concept of proportional mathematics, Liam. Too many people put too much faith or value on numbers, not considering the bigger picture or the context.
I think Valve needs to remove the OS count from their hardware survey since it confuses too many people.

It could just be referring to Vulkan games in general rather than referring to any specific releases.

Apparently desktop Linux marketshare has finally hit that elusive 2% mark
By Mountain Man, 3 July 2016 at 1:23 pm UTC

These informal surveys are encouraging, but until we have a big commercial interest pushing Linux and ensuring it gets counted, we'll never have an accurate tally of Linux desktop usage. I have a feeling that it's a lot higher than many people suspect and certainly higher than Microsoft and Apple want to admit.

Since I am not sure if I want that game, if the demo is good it might convince me into buying..

"Well on their way to the linux stretch goal" ... Yet they haven't even hit their goal for the Windows/XBox One version?

They need to raise another $150,000 in less than a month just to hit that initial goal, doesn't really seem like they'll hit the £1.1m target (another $300,000 on top) does it?

This is why I've waited with playing this game. They release content for the main campaign later, enhancing the game experience. A practise I'm not particularly fond of.

Quoting: GuestYour wallpapers are cool SangreDeReptil but it’s a bit strange that the gamepad is so blurry.
The gamepad texture is blurred on purpose, because if it's very clear, the cable wouldn't be visible and the general image would be confusing (I wanted to make it that way in the beginning, and it didn't work). Though, the texture is in a separate layer, so, if necessary, can be easily changed. Thanks for your feedback!

Major new version of the open source itch store application
By Shmerl, 3 July 2016 at 5:21 am UTC

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionI really wish that either Steam client would go open source or that Itch would gain access to higher profile games.

Higher chances are with GOG publishing Galaxy spec, and then community making a FOSS client.

Whether the userbase is stagnant right now or not, things are still moving forward for Linux gaming(albeit slowly). If it reaches the point where people find that they can play their favorite and anticipated games on a free platform such as Linux, a big change will happen(and not just in terms of amount of Linux gamers), but that day is not today.

GamingOnLinux turns 7 years old on July 5th! We are going to celebrate in style!

Is there some secret to getting Livestreamer working? I tried it today with a random Twitch.tv stream just to see if it would work and it just gives me an error, even while I'm watching that exact stream in Opera at the same time:

$ livestreamer twitch.tv/catilena1890
[cli][info] Found matching plugin twitch for URL twitch.tv/catilena1890
error: No streams found on this URL: twitch.tv/catilena1890

I tried with all the permutations of "www" and "http://" I could think of at the beggining of the URL as well, same result, and closed the stream window in case it was messing with Livestreamer. Tried it with a few different streams, still no luck. I'm just confused why it couldn't pick up the stream when the browser could just fine.

Just an FYI, the Enhanced Edition runs fine in Wine, and of course the DOS version runs fine in DOSBox.

If you think the updated graphics (and more modern engine/controls in general) make a remake worth it, you can get all the level design and many of the same mechanics from those versions.
Looks almost identical in layout.

AMD RX 480 released, AMD will possibly open up Radeon Software
By bridgman, 2 July 2016 at 8:37 pm UTC

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionSo is powerplay enabled by default in kernel 4.6 AMDGPU? There should be preliminary support for Polaris in 4.6 and this determines how soon I can get a Polaris based card.

You'll need 4.7 to get Polaris support.

The AMD RX 480 seems to have power issues you may want to be aware of
By bridgman, 2 July 2016 at 8:25 pm UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: TheRiddickI doubt a software patch will fix a fault with a dpm hardware issue on a microprocessor die! Unless they down-clock all 480 card (lol)

Remember those on-chip microcode images we load at power up that some people complain about ? If a software update is not sufficient and the DPM logic actually needs to change that just means an updated microcode image...

The AMD RX 480 seems to have power issues you may want to be aware of
By raonlinux, 2 July 2016 at 8:04 pm UTC

The funny part is already cards having the same issue, and no one make a big deal.
If people that made so many articles and afraid to damage their hardware they just don' t need to do the test on their hardware usually places that make this kind of measures or testing, have plenty of hardware to reproduce the error or try to damage their hardware in some situations.

So people are making a big deal where is not. Let the places that make review do their test, then wait for the company to respond to that experiments found it.

Anyway the only things is that the graphics cards are demanding more power from the pci express, than usually. That is the only problem if this situation make failure hardware then we need to worry, they need do a better research and for that they need time.

About Creak said Amd said it will work on 6 pin connectors, and it does, isn't it? Remember when you make an specification for anything you can make tolerance, between some ratio that make the hardware works without problem, even when you calculate something you need to do that or to the found an error.

The main problem here is that articles are making a huge deal with the topic then when you read, the topic is already misleading. Even in GOL "The AMD RX 480 seems to have power issues you may want to be aware of". The good things is explain and give some good advice as others company been in the past.
