Quoting: lucifertdarkI have to ask the people complaining about the always on thing, do you switch your internet connection off when you play a game? No? So what's the real problem?

First there is two kind of DRM system I won't support and that is always on and "you can install your game just 3 times".

Also you can never know when your provider fucks up and some regions just have mobile Edge connections #Germany Internet Neuland.

Just yesterday it happend that the internet was unstable for some reason, pc and router was ok so it was not my fault. With always on DRM I would have probably rage because usually the game is paused or you can restart from checkpoint. Sorry but I'll pass on that kind of fun.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut is having a free weekend and big sale on Steam

It is the only game in my library which has performance issues. It stutters like mad, whatever settings I try. Maybe forcing the game to sync with the screen could resolve this problem, got to investigate. But at the time I am so hooked by other titles that I won't try too soon...

Minecraft 1.10 released, adds Polar Bears and more
By Code Artisan, 10 June 2016 at 12:20 pm UTC

Quoting: FUltraI think that the version equality will be there for a long time since it's the same version due to Minecraft being a Java application. Of course they could always try and force the XBOX version as the only version (guessing here that that version is not written in Java) but there is nothing that indicates that this is on the road map.

The mobile version written in C++ is being ported to Windows 10. There no plan for Linux.

Not a problem for me. Steam is a great platform, and we Linux gamers owe Valve and Steam a big thank you for FINALLY jump-starting Linux gaming. I also love how essay Steam makes it to manage my gaming library with automatic updates to both my games and whatever installed mods I have. In fact, I'm less inclined to buy a game if it DOESN'T have a Steam version.

It is the Directors's Cut that is free to play for the weekend, you can see it yourself on the store page directly.

I don't believe it's the Director's Cut that free to play, but the original version of Wasteland 2. I have no idea what the differences are, but people on the Steam forums say there are several differences. Also, you can't carry your save over if you buy the Director's Cut, so don't get too invested in your game this weekend.

I'm considering buying it, I love good isometric RPGs and this one does seem like a great game. I just can't sit down and play anything for any length of time these days, it's 38+ degrees C outside and I prefer to just sit in the shade on the terrace reading books...
Who knows, maybe it'll be 75% off when autumn arrives.

Starbound developer comments on Linux support and their SteamOS icon

Quoting: Dea1993but what happends if now i buy this game on steam?? this will count as a linux sale or not?
i don't why buy a linux game if this don't count as a linux sell
It will count.

If a game supports Linux on Steam regardless of it having the icon, the developers will of course be able to see it.

The key is to buy and play games on Linux and not to buy them before a Linux build is downloadable and playable, that's the key thing to remember.

I was hoping that they are dropping the launcher, because there was simply no value.

in the Steam type launcher there's no extra web info via HTML like their old one. But it still allows you to choose to run a dedicated server or just run the regular Starbound client, just a plain steam type launcher.

once 1.0 is released people will get a fresh look into Starbound, because they get that "new released" hype. With all the crazy amount of content going into the game I'm sure it will turn out to be a legend in it's own right. I really like this new wave of 2D sandbox/voxel style games. Terraria, Crea and Starbound are all great in their own way. each being unique enough, But I think so far Starbound is my overall favorite.

In their nightly they've changed their old launcher into a more native steam type launcher. So I'm sure their SteamOS logo will be back when 1.0 drops. hopefully their Linux sells will be up a bit higher then.

Painless Linux-Support has two sides:
It's probably painless to support stuff if you're using the right libraries to get all the window management, input and stuff done.
What can be a pain, especially for graphically more... challanging products is still the graphics stack. Ye, a lot of is done there, but we're not quite where I'd consider it a good state.

Still, ye, Linux numbers is minimal, and I can understand business decisions on not supporting Linux. Though, it's always nice if we get a game :-).

During the AMA, Tiy also mentioned a possible release before the end of July:

Quoting: TiyuriThis isn't a promise, anything could come up and we're just going to keep polishing it until it's ready. But internally we're aiming for any time before the end of July.

Obviously we're pretty terrible at predicting dates.

Quoting: GuestI'm not at all surprised that game developers don't want to publish on Linux when the very small amount of gamers on it refuse to buy games because of DRM

I think almost no one on the site says they won't buy a game if it contains DRM. (The people that vehemently opposed to DRM wouldn't even have a steam account) The specific method mentioned though is quite pathetic imo, as there are a multitude of circumstances that can leave you without an internet connection, and thus unable to play your game.

"I get that having multiple operating systems during a beta can increase support load, but how can they expect to have a polished Linux release without outside testing like Windows gets?"

Same thing happened for Pillars of Eternity and Wasteland 2, and the linux version of those games turned out fine (besides the linux performance tax you see in all unity games :p).

Besides, this is a story driven game, so I would rather wait for the release day to play it.

Must be hard watching all these steam only games pass you by then. I personally don't see steam as an issue/problem, even as drm since it's not invasive or hindering in any way.
That's what I though, too: If the games are windows only, we want them on Linux. Fair enough! But if the games come to Linux, we want them DRM free. What's next? Requesting a BSD release?

Of course I prefer DRM, but most Steam Linux games have none or a very light DRM. So... If you wanna play I wouldn't bother too much with DRM stuff... It's not like EA Origin and far away from Uplay.

EDIT: there's also OpenDungeons if there is anyone who didn't know about it.

Quoting: lucifertdarkI have to ask the people complaining about the always on thing, do you switch your internet connection off when you play a game? No? So what's the real problem?
Let me start, that I am not a person who won't buy a game because of the internet connection requirement.

But I can understand such a people, because last week I understood how such a thing may really make person angry. I had an internet connection outage for the whole weekend (Internet provider informed me that on their site everything is fine, have you tried to turn it off and on again didn't work, I have no access to software except admin panel which is piece of (insert 4 characters here, first one is 'S', last one is 't'). Long story short - I didn't have an internet connection).

And at this point I have decided to play Don't Starve Together with my girlfriend on LAN. And what was my surprise when it turned out that first Don't Starve Together had to login to the game, what was requiring internet connection. Honestly, I don't know if it was possible to play the game with some hack, but being unable to play it at first try this day made me resign from playing it for the whole weekend.

To sum up, I will buy the game with such a DRM, but I really can understand that some people won't.

Quoting: KimyrielleI tolerate Steam's DRM, but Always On is a bit much. I don't get why companies still do this, as they now have a pretty much unbreakable DRM (Denuvo). Other than that it looks fun! Glad to see SE really getting into supporting Linux.

That's the way I feel too, however I believe it is simply a matter of ideology for many people. It is the way how someone experiences the free Linux platform and what they have come to expect it to be.

For all off my kickstarter projects I dont mind the delays , they can take as much time they want so as to deliver a quality product something that will worth the wait... :)

I have backed up a lot of games in order that I will have the chance to play it as a Linux user and provide feedback but unfortunately that is not happening anytime soon with almost all the games I have kickstarter so far.
Anyway that is the least to bother me and I really dont have a problem with that.
I have many games to keep me busy so no worries.

What it bothers me the most is that a lot of game developers are developing an early access windows version only so at the end when the game is finished they thing that they will just press the magic button and have all the builds available for ALL OS and consoles instantly ready and working perfectly.
Unfortunately in many cases that scenario was not working as intended and many developers had to spend another 2-3 years in order to port their games to other OS or Consoles.

No Wip Builds for Mac or Linux
No Beta Builds for Mac or Linux
No Steam Early access for Mac or Linux

So I just hope that on the release date they will have the promise builds available....
