Eh? You know it works with virtually every game, right?

They were probably referring to the fact Rocket League was "designed for the Steam Controller", so it should come with a default configuration for Steam controllers that works really well with the game out-of-the-box.

That's not even remotely what they said, so how you can infer such details is puzzling.

Regardless, I seriously doubt there will be a nice default configuration. After three months of use, I've found what works best for me, and I've yet to come across one default config that felt right to me - not even those provided by Valve. But that's the genius of the Steam Controller - you can customize it to whatever the hell you want. The controller adapts to you, not you to the controller, and it is fantastic. Letting it collect dust, as the original comment insinuated, is criminal.

The Rocket League ad advertised great support for the Steam Controller, and the game came free if you pre-purchased a Steam Controller or Steam Link (and probably a Machine as well) along with Portal 2, so you're wrong.

Yes, I pre-ordered my Steam Controller and got it on day one, including a code for Rocket League and Portal 2 (which I already owned). The Portal 2 controls are OK, but like I said, they're not THE BEST. I've used the Steam Controller for months now, EVERY DAY, and it's fantastic. But the chances of some random person out there making a default config that *I* will be happy with are pretty slim. Have you even used a Steam Controller? There are a near infinite number of possibilities for configuring and tweaking everything about it, and the chances of someone nailing a config that most people will be happy with are inversely proportional to that. Sure, some might get close, but like I said, I've yet to find one that hasn't needed changes. Just one example, almost every config out there uses the stupid analog stick for movement. That's so 1996, and the trackpad works amazingly - once you get used to it - and it is more versatile and comfortable to use than the analog stick. Same deal with using the face buttons... With a 360-style gamepad, you will probably use the X and A buttons a TON, but they're the LEAST comfortable to reach on a Steam Controller. Just slapping up a config that essentially duplicates a 360 pad with minor changes is NOT ENOUGH. If you had a Steam Controller, you'd know this. It is the gamepad equivalent to overclocking and tweaking and optimizing and recompiling kernels and all that kind of thing.

Even though im an nvidia user it would be nice to get some AMD support here. AMD are going to be improving hopefully soon and its not good if games don't even run when the driver gets a huge uplift.

Quoting: rashafferI also wish I could give you money for your port, but I originally bought M2TW many years ago. Is there another way to compensate Feral for your great work?

You could buy a second copy for one of your Linux friends but in all seriousness don't worry about it, you can always buy the next game that we port if you like the game, hopefully you won't already own that one :)

This is great and works like a charm, although I did have to run the script a few times to make sure all the files were made lower case.

I'll keep my eyes out for the other upcoming Feral releases. I've bought most of the ones you've already put out.

Thanks for all the great work.

If a Linux option is not specifically selectable at the time of purchase then it will almost certainly be counted as a Windows purchase since Steam keys are platform specific. This is why you should always make your purchases through Steam for Linux or at the official site, assuming Linux can be selected as your platform of choice.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyBasically, it seems like in the course of a couple of years, Linux gaming has gone from ridiculously marginal to vague parity with Mac. That's hard to believe when I think about it.

Don't forget how ridiculously marginal Mac also was. Steam supported mac at 2010. At 2013 mac was already something but far behind from where is Linux now. Linux has done in 2 years about the same mac done in 5. Linux is still behind but mac had an head start and is also ridiculously expanding.

Well, people can say sure, there's quantity but what about the quality.
But when you get to this kind of numbers, quantity has a quality all its own. If you've got 10 games and only 10% of your games are any good, you've got one good game. If you've got 1800 games and only 10% of your games are any good, you've got more good games than I can play in years.

I'd buy this game immediately if it would get released DRM-free anywhere else than Steam.

I absolutely love the Hercule Poirot Character by Agatha Christie and The ABC Murders definitely is one of the most interesting Hercule Poirot stories.

Also, I really like the graphics of this game. It looks quite beautiful.

War Thunder
Robocraft
Star Conflict
Day of Defeat: Source

windows:
Naval Action
ARK: Survival Evolved
Warframe
H1Z1
War Thunder

Racing: 49/322
linux:
Distance
Audiosurf 2

Absolute Drift
Road Redemption

windows:

Actually not that bad except Racing. The only genre that linux is really bad right now is racing.

from the above, the game that will help most on this comparison are
Rocket League (is on the way!)

3. Fallout 4 (lowest priority - but at this place because well - the list only has 3)...

My guess is that they wrote their game description and what platforms it was on before they added Linux support. As recently as December they didn't have plans for Linux, yet this changed about a week ago, as evidenced in this thread:

Quoting: adolsonIt was just a little joke. But I will never buy one of those black-text-on-white-background "games" and I wish they were separated from the real games. It seems like 50% of the time or more when I see a cool-sounding game title and icon, I click it, only to be greeted by a set of screenshots that all look like a homework assignment.

You should try browsing GOG games then, holy moly it seems like every other game is a turn based point and click retro graphics indie novel. It would be really great if both Steam and GOG would add search filters to make it easier to browse only high quality commercial games.

I know there are some people who like those kinds of games but honestly Linux is no longer in need of any more 1980s text adventures.

Nvidia hosted a Vulkan Developers Day which sounds awesome
By whatever, 21 January 2016 at 3:09 pm UTC

Quoting: TheBossI do worry at times that Vulkan will end up in a similar situation to OpenGL with developers using special Nvidia extensions and performance stuff which Intel and AMD may not have.

This is how standards evolve, actually. Let's say Nvidia introduces a new NV extension that developers like very much. Said developers begin to use it with great results, developing specific render paths for nvidia's GPUs. Nvidia's customers enjoy the results and the extension usage spreads, leaving AMD and Intel customers in the dust. AMD then adapt its GPUs to take advantage of the functionality and contextually publish a proposal for an ARB extension definition for the new feature, maybe in collaboration with some Nvidia engineer. Later the Kronos Group accept that ARB extension that becomes the new way to leverage the Nvidia invented functionality. Meanwhile developers begin to use the Kronos backed ARB extension, targeting both Nvidia and AMD users (Intel is still deciding what to do...)
Many years later the ARB extension becomes core functionality in a new version of Vulkan.

On the other end, Microsoft decides in complete isolation what you are allowed to use in D3D, which is not a standard.

I do not generally pre-order games, but I pre-ordered this one for the discount that ends at launch, and day-one Linux support, and my love of detective/mystery. I hope it is as good as I am thinking it will be!

I played L.A. Noire on PS3 and finished it, and everything about it was a HUGE disappointment. That said, I'd probably buy it if it somehow came to Linux, but I doubt I'd ever actually play it again.

Quoting: runeIt's the developers that decide what API they will use, and also everything else when it comes to developing. If they for some reason write code that perform better on NVIDIA, that doesn't mean that Vulkan itself has failed.

There is no reason at all to reject Vulkan. OpenGL isn't going to change, and Vulkan is of course the only way forward.

That's exactly what it could mean, how are you getting that logic? If a "standard" favors one vendor over another when it's supposed to be vendor-agnostic, it's either a) that vendor is doing it "right" and other vendors need to adapt to the standard, or b) the standard is a bad one.

The Vulkan API itself has to be vendor-agnostic, it doesn't make sense if it isn't. But obviously it's possible to write code that 'works' on a certain architecture (the good way), and then it's possible to write code that fully takes advantage of that architecture (the best way).

Hopefully all or most of the games being released will fully take advantage of all architectures.
