We have Ten Copies Of The Fantastic Victor Vran To Give Away!
By ravenkind2, 27 July 2015 at 3:43 pm UTC

Zagoravia. The name is well known amongst my kind. Demon hunters. One at a time we go to Zagoravia to free it's people from the evil that lies within. One at a time we fall to the horde that is thriving there.

It is now my time to head to Zagoravia. So I will load up my rifle and mortar. I will smash my hammer and slash my sword. I WILL slay the horde. I WILL kill the heart of evil that beats there. I WILL free Zagoravia's people. I will succeed where so many others have failed, because I am Victor Vran.

I would make a good hunter because I already live at night since may 18, feeding my newborn boy when he wakes up.

My name is Cheerockie, my real name is Victor, Victror Vran.
I devoted all of my life to kill the demons. Evil is everywhere, and now I have to overcome in the digital world. So give me the the code, boy, and let me fulfill my duty!

Submerged, A Third-person Combat-free Adventure Game May Get Linux Support

Quoting: scaine
Quoting: KelsOh wow, Submerged might be headed to Linux? I'm totally in! I saw the trailer for this a few months back and it has that Ico vibe I've been wanting for ages now.

Not a Day One purchase though. Cradle taught me not to trust.

What's wrong with Cradle (apart from a tighter-than-it-should-be FOV)? I thought it was getting generally good feedback.

The FoV is a huge issue for me since I get motion sickness, and the devs have a pretty bad attitude about it. The fact that it's unplayable by a significant part of their audience is actually a pretty serious issue.

Big time D1-2-3 player and looking for the next cool thing. Even if I don't win I will end up buying this game since it has me very interested.
I am extremely curious about the controller controls and would absolutely love you GOL if I could win a copy.
As for a weapon of choice, I think a scythe would be my poison :)

I will answer question from the topic this way:
I did not buy Victor Vran yet because I have some doubts is it as good as Liam says (I've read many reviews that this game is not pure gold).
I will be good hunter because I will use my copy to review the game and if it is as good as Liam says I will buy one copy and give it back to community (I mean Liam ;) ) so he will be able to give it to a person with 11th best answer.

Quoting: ricki42
Quoting: KimyrielleI will always, as in always, prefer being able to roll a character of my own choosing instead of a premade one, and I like to believe there is almost never a compelling reason to go with a premade one at all. I think that a good writer can always adapt a given story to a custom character and make it fit regardless of whether the player picks a white guy or a black female.

I disagree. This only works for stories where the main character is essentially a blank slate and the story is about the world and the people around them. Strong compelling stories often rely on a compelling main character, and you completely miss out on those.

A little thought experiment: Get your copy of Lord of the Rings, search for "Frodo" and replace with "Frida". Change all gender pronouns accordingly. Then tell me what impact that change had on the story.

You're right: None.

And we are talking about one of the most compelling stories ever written, not about a computer game where the main focus isn't telling a story but bashing monsters with a big hammer.

I concede that -some- stories need a fixed character. For instance I complete understand that the Witcher has to be a fixed character because he is an established figure in Polish mythology. But 99% work the exact same way with a protagonist of the opposite gender. Or with a different skin colour. What's often needed for a protagonist to work in a story is setting his or her personality traits and abilities (e.g. Victor Vran needs to be a skilled fighter). Other than a few exceptions such as the ones you listed in your post, gender or skin colour almost never matters.

Quoting: throghFirst I hoped that this game would be a very nice addition and one of the first action-roleplaying-games on Linux. A purchase on GOG was really near. But now I'd like to point out that this game is not DRM-free as GOG mentions: For multiplaying there is a client-server-principle and nothing about normal peer-to-peer LAN-mode. Also the so-called treasure-hunting is matter of discussion because the account is also needed for activating the keycodes in the singleplayer. So far the discussion within GOG-forums. Have I missed something? Or perhabs somebody could refute me, please? For me the game also said "GOODBYE", if these mechanics stay there is no purchase. Won't buy DRM-software that way!

None of the "online" features are required to play the game.

I'd make a great hunter, as nothing on earth would see me as a threat. Who am I kidding, they wouldn't be wrong. I feel bad if I have to kill a fly.

The only thing I "hunt" is bacon, and then proceed to pay the cashier. But I'll beat the crap out of virtual monsters any day.

When I was much younger than today I swore to me that no vile creature shall escape my pursuit and up until today I've lived to this oath!

As a Ser I am indeed a great hunter and I would love to prove it to you, my Lords.
