2 new games added to the latest Humble
By Hamish, 2 November 2011 at 1:13 am UTC

Why could they not just get these games into the damn thing in the beginning? Or maybe they could have held out on the last Bundle and had both the games in this one and the last and had one proper Bundle? I really am beginning to wonder...

Considering the last full Bundle made over 2 million, they would not even have lost any money. I really do not understand this.

Depends what java lib it uses? If like minecraft it may need updating, i forget what the libs called though it's not a very easy to remember name.

lwgjl or something.

Just tried "Blocks that Matter", and as with some other Java games the keyboard didn't respond and I had no sound.

Any idea on how to solve it ?

At first I was very disappointed when they introduced only one game, so I've waited for a real bundle which came today and donated $10, yeah it's not much but considering that I'm unemployed right now, and I have a lot of other bills to pay - that's reasonable for me.

Quoting: "Bumadar, post: 2547"Just thinking out loud, are they experimenting ? to see which works best, a big bundle at the start or a small one and adding stuff IF you are above average ?
Personally I am more attracted by a big bundle, I pay a lot more tbh, then by a 1 game bundle that they might (or might not) add games too. In this case I would have payed more straight away for 3 games then for the 1 it was at the start.

edit: they added steam keys, so lets hope Desura key follows soon :)

I agree. When it was 5 games to start and two to three months between bundles, I payed double what I just payed for this one. When it's just the single game to start, I just feel like I need to 'hedge my bets' so to speak. Also, with more frequent bundles, I simply can't spend as much per bundle.

not sure about this, I do my best to support linux games and thus the humble bundle but not sure about this one at all, last one was not that good either.

btw, on a side note, humble guys got a capital investor http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/34255/Humble_Bundle_Backed_By_47_Million_In_Venture_Capital.php, would that explain the changes to the last few bundles or am I being silly :).

edit: okay I went for it... and its good fun, have to agree with that :)

The Humble Voxatron Bundle

I do like the fact that every comment disagrees...and they are all true. I am personally disappointed that this is not a bundle...or even a complete game however cool it is, and it looks very cool, and it would benefit from a lot of user content. I personally would have loved this to be a speciality bundle of upcoming promising mostly finished indie games that need a cash injection to push them to completion, and get some viral advertising , and user content. Project Zomboid could do certainly do with a little good news, after having a positive reception, a great alpha product, its been all Doom and Gloom since. Or Starfarer a lovely topdown Space Combat that has had little to no press, and has a fun beta out now. Or King Authur's Gold selling some of its premium membership, it needs more players online, and pushes out exciting new content regularly. I will be getting this because you cannot go wrong with Lego Robotron, but at most it is worth a fifth of what I have given for the other bundles. Personally I think Puppy Games refreshed high resolution retro games included in its Ultrabundle should be getting more attention Droid Assault on its own is a worth its "daft"[sic] price

?

Of course one game isn't a bundle. That's why this is the Humble Voxatron Debut.

And are we really complaining about how a pay what you want program that enforces no DRM and cross-platform is ran? Really?

Yeah I would have to agree the last bundle kinda SUCKED really the games were not that great. Yeah one alpha game does not make a bundle.

I do not remember every news post on GOL (I do read them though)...

As I said, game itself is probably cool (as voxels are cool), but one alpha does not a bundle make in my opinion...

Not Heard of Voxatron? You being a regular at Gol? We have posted news on this game a few times.
Seriously though this game does look cool

The Humble Voxatron Bundle
By Hamish, 31 October 2011 at 6:16 pm UTC

And this time it is only an Alpha... *whacks head into the wall*

Seriously, the game may be great (I am not sure, had not heard of it), but in my opinion all this is doing is devaluing the Humble Indie Bundle brand. And with this a good reputation is the most important thing you can have.

They should have less Bundles, maybe only two or three a year, and work on making each a quality purchase. This just seems lazy and complacent.

Again, not a dig on the game, just the direction the Bundle's seems to be going

The game crashes for me before I even have time to enter my login credentials, but their website is having problems at the moment, so I hope it is related to that.

Just grabbed a beta key from Fileplanet and I must say that the Linux port is done quite well. Runs flawlessly on my Mint setup. I was quite surprised with Squeenix being the publisher and all. Here's a link to the fileplanet beta key giveaway if anyone is interested!

Trailer looks amazing, actual game doesn't really look like something I'd enjoy. But well, I'll try almost anything that officially supports Linux :p

That's a very misleading trailer. But oh well, so the real gameplay is like an MMO Final Fantasy Tactics? That's not bad but the trailer makes it looks like it's an adventure game along the lines of Dragon's Lair or such.

well worth it if you not already have it. Start with Penumbra and work your way to Amnesia.... I still shiver if I think back about a few of the moments in that game :)

Dead Cyborg Episode 1 updated, episode 2 teased!
By , 27 October 2011 at 7:27 pm UTC

If you don't have PulseAudio installed than start the game with appropriate launcher (those without pulseaudio). The pulseaudio launchers are adding the padsp command which will obviously won't work with ALSA or OSSv4.

I'm using the newest version of Open Sound System compiled from the mercurial repository and sound works in this game. You could also check the .openalrc contents as the game uses OpenAL for sound. Maybe it is still configured to work with PulseAudio.

But did the "Pulseaudio" issue been solved ?
I can't hear any sound without it, and it's the 1st thing I remove.

Kot-in-Action to make a quake style shooter?

I for one put my vote down for a new Quake and Doom like shooter. :D

I highly doubt there is a free AAA quality dungeon crawler (not that there are whole a lot AAA FPS dungeon crawlers on the market for $20).
And according to some FPS gurus, there is nothing like Doom/Quake on the market as far as gameplay.

I thought this was going to be topdown with humans instead of ships and got all exited...but its not that which puts it in competition with an awful lot good quality free software. Looking forward to DLC

Also, 3rd parties are still in consideration of what engine they will use. I am just learning UDK personally right now and I do help with the KiA team community management as well.

For those interested in the 3rd party side, Epic has announced Flash support for Unreal and (hopefully) soon UDK. Flash 11 has been announced by Adobe to run on Linux with hardware acceleration. So there's a possibility that not only can a UDK game run on Linux but that it can stream content meaning it takes up less hard drive space and (hopefully, from other streaming services I've looked at recently) load times.
