And there is a reason Switch is actually a lot more traditional again - the wii u showed them that they can't build another generation on gimmicks. Also, it's not like Valve are ONLY driven by telemetry. Their VR Headsets, the SteamController AND the Deck show they start with their own vision and then improve based on testing and feedback. That's a lot better then Nintendos *eat what we serve*-approach from my book.

Respectfully, the Switch is probably Nintendo's biggest gimmick console... And I think this gimmick works extremely well.

It's also a gimmick that Valve borrowed for the Steam Deck.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what does this mean? Are they - like Epic - complaining that the 30% is too high? Isn't that industry standard though? Last I heard Microsoft and Sony both charged a 30% cut too.

It's not especially hostile. The point is in order to make it work right now, you would have to defeat anti-cheat. Obviously they can't say that's OK.

While I am disappointed that they are not putting in the very little effort it would take to make the game playable on Linux, it's just business.

Destiny 2 uses BattlEye as its anti-cheat system. BattlEye has supported Linux, by their own words, for a long time and will continue to support Linux for the foreseeable future.

That's not what they're doing. They're saying anyone that managed to get the game running on proton... anti-cheat in place or disabled - will be banned. Which is scummy.

I have played a lot of games with anti-cheat systems in place through WINE/Proton - most notably World of Warcraft with its warden anti-cheat system - and never had a problem before.

I've heard this argument before, but the same applies to the entire PC ecosystem, not just Linux.

A quick google finds me a Forbes article saying that anger over Destiny 2 cheating is reaching a tipping point.(Apr 2020)
And a player one article saying that cheaters have returned despite new anti-cheat measures (Oct 2021).

I assume the majority of these cheaters are on the Windows platform.
