It's also a gimmick that Valve borrowed for the Steam Deck.

Quoting: const2) Well, I'd argue if any company but Nintendo came out with Wii and DS, they would have failed. And there is a reason Switch is actually a lot more traditional again - the wii u showed them that they can't build another generation on gimmicks. Also, it's not like Valve are ONLY driven by telemetry. Their VR Headsets, the SteamController AND the Deck show they start with their own vision and then improve based on testing and feedback. That's a lot better then Nintendos *eat what we serve*-approach from my book.Respectfully, the Switch is probably Nintendo's biggest gimmick console... And I think this gimmick works extremely well.

Other claims like the 30% cut Valve take being "supracompetitive"Sorry for the dumb question, but what does this mean? Are they - like Epic - complaining that the 30% is too high? Isn't that industry standard though? Last I heard Microsoft and Sony both charged a 30% cut too.

GTA V is a pain in the rear even on Windows, especially with that Rockstar Launcher nonsense.

Quoting: BielFPsValve's income is selling PC games. With the Steam Deck able to play a very high number of Windows games now...Quoting: Purple Library GuyLeast of our worries. Valve have plenty of $$$, what they want is future-proofing and Microsoft cannot give them that and would not if it could.Friendly reminder that most of Valve's income is selling games for Windows users

Quoting: BielFPsValve isn't likely to listen to Microsoft.Quoting: Guest"we are providing these resources as is and are unfortunately unable to offer 'Windows on Deck' support"I hope Microsoft doesn't a$k Valve to reconsider
I hope they stick with that and don't cave to any pressure. Keep devel and support focused on SteamOS and FOSS so we all benefit in the long run.

Quoting: areamanplaysgameDestiny 2 uses BattlEye as its anti-cheat system. BattlEye has supported Linux, by their own words, for a long time and will continue to support Linux for the foreseeable future.Quoting: omer666For a company that started as a mac-exclusive, it is pretty goofy to be so hostile. It's not especially hostile. The point is in order to make it work right now, you would have to defeat anti-cheat. Obviously they can't say that's OK.
While I am disappointed that they are not putting in the very little effort it would take to make the game playable on Linux, it's just business.

I have played a lot of games with anti-cheat systems in place through WINE/Proton - most notably World of Warcraft with its warden anti-cheat system - and never had a problem before.

Quoting: Spl-itThey're not. They threaten people that disable the anti cheat with a ban. That's not what they're doing. They're saying anyone that managed to get the game running on proton... anti-cheat in place or disabled - will be banned. Which is scummy.
Because let's be honest here, the main reason to disable anti cheat... is to cheat

A quick google finds me a Forbes article saying that anger over Destiny 2 cheating is reaching a tipping point.(Apr 2020)
And a player one article saying that cheaters have returned despite new anti-cheat measures (Oct 2021).
I assume the majority of these cheaters are on the Windows platform.

Quoting: CFWhitmanthe reason for not using that version is because they can't control Linux machines that other people run like Stadia servers can be controlled. They have the 'Linux is a cheating risk' mindset.I've heard this argument before, but the same applies to the entire PC ecosystem, not just Linux.
