FortressCraft Evolved exits early access, SteamOS & Linux now fully supported, but buggy

Quoting: lucifertdarkA bad workman always blames his tools. I'm willing to bet it's nothing to do with Unity though as there are other games using Unity that don't have this problem of the black boxes
This Bug in Unity affected also other games like 7 Day to Die which had the same problems with black boxes aso. But I'm surprised that FCE runs now into as this Bug has been fixed months ago.

I know FCE and the developer since the original version has been released for the XBox a few years ago. If there are problems/bugs then it is IMHO neither piss-poor linux GPU drivers, or piss-poor Linux Unity support, but more likely a piss-poor Developer which likes to blame everthing else before he realizes that he is the problem, which made a mistake and/or lacks knowledge.

Quoting: LukeNukemIf that's his attitude, in glad I didn't give him any cash.

Still a damn shame though, I really hope he comes around, and solves the issue.
I hope that too but with my experience with him this will take a while as he has to accept the real reason for the issues first :/

How-to: Minecraft with the Steam Controller on Linux desktop and SteamOS
13 Nov 2015 at 9:25 am UTC

Nice! Will try that if I get my hands on a Steam Controller.
Tried playing Minecraft once with an normal Gamepad on a XBox which kinda sucked.

Another thing with adding Non-Steam games & Apps to Steam, is that you will get kicked out of the game everytime Steam gets an update or looses contact to the Steam server :(.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleNewbies might also like to know how to install Kodi on their Steam Machine since SteamOS media centre functionality is a bit not-quite-there. :)

Sure and burn a lot of power ~200W/h (depening on model) for just watching movies :(. A Raspberry Pi needs max. 3-4 W/h and small machine with an ATOM CPU needs 10-15W/h.

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLSo why we need this simply script in bash? We can't run in directly from Steam as .jar file?
Steam can't run a .jar file out of the box. As can see in the screenshots you only can add a filename BUT no parameters. So you have to wrap the full command line into a shell script.

Three Years Ago Valve Put Steam Into Beta For Linux, A Look At It All
9 Nov 2015 at 8:06 am UTC

Quoting: tmtvlAnd we're still at around 1% of steam users, so there's absolutely no reason for anyone to target Linux unless they have personal reasons to do so.
As lucifertdark pointed already this number is 3 years old, but the Users behind this number have been grown from 300k (1st Suryey) up to around 1.3 Million. So? 1.3 Million potential customers is a nice market already.

Three Years Ago Valve Put Steam Into Beta For Linux, A Look At It All
9 Nov 2015 at 8:02 am UTC

Quoting: lucifertdarkOver the last 3 years my Steam library has gone from 50-60 Windows games to almost 1100 with 450 of those supporting Linux, I can't remember the last time I played a game in Windows. Humble Bundle has a lot to answer for with that huge jump in my library.
Same here. I'm booting Windows hardly nowadays. It's a pain to boot it. The first it does is patching for hours :/. Which isn't really motivating to boot it at all xD

Valve Rep Confirms Why Some Games Have Their SteamOS Icon Removed

Quoting: melkemindCome on now.
Nope! A habbit is no excuse :D

Quoting: EmazzaTPlus, adding pre-compiled Java might be a nightmare from legal p.o.v., not sure the small devs would be able to.
Can't see any legal nightmare with OpenJDK, which is the refrence for Java nowadays. Maybe you will have to get a license for some libraries, but not for the Runtime Environment. Which could be easily distributed with SteamOS as it is in any other Linux-Distribution.

Quoting: EmazzaStop using Java for your games and develop in C/C++, I know it's not a good answer.
You are right, it isn't! I would rather develop in C# then in C/C++. :D

Valve Rep Confirms Why Some Games Have Their SteamOS Icon Removed

Quoting: MaelraneHow can one defend that stupid practice? It's like starting to act before you even thought about what you want to achieve.
Exactly! This was a very stupid move from Valve!

1) It defintely hurts the sales for Linux/SteamOS of the affected games
2) We will get more problems on DRM-Free platforms, where we miss some Linux-Ports already on GOG because of the Steam-Dependencies, e.g. Metro Redux!

Also why hasn't that been communicated before Valve removes the SteamOS-Icon and Linux-Systemrequirements?

I have asked several publishers/developers what is going on, but they have been surprised as I'm. At least the responded that they will continue to support Linux :)
Not to mention the confused Customers, we have several threads where people asking about the Linux support. If it is discontinued now. Some have flamed already against some developers for it. Well done, Valve! Well done!

Sure there should be a standard for to earn the SteamOS-Logo, but NOT THIS WAY!!!

Valve Is Trolling Us With A New Half-Life 3 Leak

Quoting: liamdaweI still haven't finished Half-Life 2,
WTF, Half-Life 2 is one of the most sold PC titles ever and its metascore of 96/100 is just incredible.
Well, haven't even really started yet. In HL1 it seems there is a time limit, in which I have to do something to get the door open. As I couldn't figure it out. I dropped it. Tried it later again. Did the same stuff, just faster, and voila the door is open!
In HL2 I have a similar problem in the beginnig, where I have no clue what to do. Maybe another timing issue. Dropped it as well! And no. I'm not going to use any Cheatsheets or Walkthroughs.

Oh! Metascore says nothing about a game. For me it's irrelevant and doesn't influence my choice if I buy a game or not. Metascore is just Marketing-BlaBla like the payed Youtubers.

Quoting: linux_gamer
Quoting: liamdaweWhich is a reason I respect them, exclusives are the devil.
They deserve our respect but exclusivity makes the money. Who would ever buy a Xbox if Halo wasn't Xbox only (*some were released years after for Win), me not. (Own Xbox 360 with Halo 4 but no other game)
Respect? For Exclusives? No way! I'm not buying a hardware for just one game. Never ever! I bought a XBox 360 a few years after release as it had enough good games which I'm interessted in. I think it was bundled with Halo, not sure if it was Halo 4. Sold it after 5-10 Minutes Gameplay anyway. Shooters on a Console? Horrible nightmare!

For the current PC-Console-Generation you can release as many exclusives you want. Not going to buy it!
