That could be the problem: "Currently multiplayer is available only between GOG.com users. Crossplay version will follow shortly." Sounds like another GOG Galaxy <censored>!

Correction: No Linux version on GOG. I wonder what's the reason this time, since it doesn't have an online focus.
Sure that you have been on the correct store page? ;)

As you can find on the store page:
Works on: Windows (7, 8, 10), Mac OS X (10.10+) and Linux (Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04)

Also the download version for the game is similar for all three platforms: 105r1
Edit: It should be something with 106 e.g. v106 or 106r1

Meh! Not on GOG yet :(

I like this two:
- Ogres can now disembark their ships and attack even if your land is completely walled off
- Viking ships now have catapults

Arma 3 for Linux updated to 1.70, it’s now 64bit and solves the texture issue I had

No, it is still behind the Windows version, which is 1.76 if I get this right. Linux/Mac are 1.70.

I did wonder if there was some difference between performance on standard Linux & SteamOS, looks like it's the same. what you got there is what I get, muddy water, random flashes of light, BUT it is running better than it used to graphics aside.
There aren't differences between Linux & SteamOS. If there are differences then they are marginal.

The problem is number of polygons. In a singleplayer game you have control over it and can optimize it to a fix number of polygons. You are in control of how many opbjects you have on your screen.

But in an MMO you can't control how many players you have on a screen. It can be one (you :)) or hundred. To solve this problem you have to work with a lower graphic quality.

Another advantage is that you have a larger potential player base available, which was one of the reasons that WoW was such an huge success. It runs smoothly on older machines too, not on high end PCs only.
