Albion Online fixes lag issues that plagued servers
8 Sep 2017 at 7:36 pm UTC
Keep in mind! That not all developers have enough experience with Linux yet. Most of them still learning. In a few years this may change. At the moment we have to take care of ourselves if we use a non-supported distribution. We have come far but we are not at the end of the road yet.
Feel free to post your manual fixes into their forum. Maybe they decide to support more distributions in the future as they have become more familar with Linux :)
IMHO they should include everything what the game needs to run. Makes it a lot easier to support it with a solid base :)

Quoting: MaelraneAs soon as I can play again (LIKE THE WHOLE BETA!) without having to manually fix a lot of stuff, I am in again. How should they support more distributions? The default gaming Distributions for now is Debian/Ubuntu-Based, and that is what is supported by them. As it states on the the download page anyway.
Yes, Arch is not supported by default, but they broke it in May, not only for Arch and then a dev wrote "well, Linux is only < 0.5% of the player base", that nearly killed it for me.
I mean, taking money is all okay, even from a tiny minority, but then supporting the platform is suddenly not a priority, because it's so small a userbase? (the thread I talk about was opened in a very polite way on reddit and it was NOT about Arch, but Ubuntu afair)

Anyhow good to see the server(s) back in calm waters...for now :)

Quoting: michaBelieve me, we worked really intense since the release to get the issues fixed as quickly as possible! The first 2 weeks were server issues due to the load and you can imagine how we felt getting attacked (DDOS) the day after we deployed a solution for that performance issues.Sure, I believe you worked really intense time. But you can easily misinterpret a normal server overload as a DDOS Attack, and my guess is, that this is what happened here. I mean that is what Clients do, if you have to many of them, right? :). Also your fix appears at a time as they player base seems to have dropped. Which is an odd coincidence, that makes me doubt the whole DDOS-Attack & Fix story even more.

Or should I say FUD?Quoting: Crazy PenguinSure it's true! I can expand my team by 1-2 people adding & fixing multiplayer. No impact at all for your single player experience! ;)Wow. You've never actually worked in a real world company, have you?

This may slow down the development of game, depending on the developers team, but it does not have an impact on your single player experience. If our lives were infinite then it would be true.

Well, I have my doubt on the DDOS-Theory anyway. I think this was just an excuse for overloaded servers. IMHO is it a bit strange that now as the first premium wave including compensation ended 2 days ago and suddenly the lag is fixed is a bit odd.
Funny side effect the chat has become readable too.

How does "technical problems" of a multiplayer mode affect your singleplayer game? Well, it doesn't! It never has!
How does a single-player experience in a game like Planet Nomads differ? It doesn't. You can still play it alone! Like you can do it right now!

Quoting: EhvisIndeed. Took me two years to finish a Portal Coop game with a friend. Real life can be a nuisance.Portal is not a Sandbox survival game, or did I miss something?
That said, the technical problems with a game like this and networked play are astronomical. They probably thought coop would be doable, but realised too late that it was beyond a team of their size.

Quoting: KelsI'm in the same boat. I don't have a steady schedule, and just want to putter round exploring and building shit without either relying on someone else in order to enjoy the game. I rarely play multi games at all anyway, so while I recognize it would mean more sales (and less complaining) I wouldn't miss it in the least. You can play this kind of games alone if you like to! No one is forcing you to play with someone else. So why no multiplayer support?
Hell, there are games I've taken off my wishlist because they abandoned a good single-player experience for multi. For the time being, this one stays on.

BTW: Where can I find the real numbers behind the "share"? Only they show if the we have grown in numbers or just in percentages.

Quoting: EikeWe have a real life, shifts and family as well. We play if we have time, sometimes alone. Most important is that we can build and work together in one world! This is not an MMO where you need a group for some quests/instances/dungeons. This is not World of Warcraft :DQuoting: Crazy PenguinAs I said it is my server which is running 7d/24h on which I'm playing with MY FRIENDS!We understood that and it's great, but while I don't know about you and your friends, many people have this real life going on and still would find it difficult to find time slots to play together. My best friends do shift-work and I've got two babies to take care of, and that's just two obvious examples.
