Planet Nomads drops plans to have co-op and multiplayer

Quoting: Crazy PenguinErm..No! Doesn't happen on my own dedicated server on which I play with friends. :)
Well, here's a few things that can just as easily happen with your own server...

- connectivity problems, e.g. lag
- people with higher spec hardware having an advantage
- time management, i.e. making time to fit in playing (and your co-op partners making time, too)

But most multiplayer games are not on "your own server" as another comment.
Erm..still NO! Connection problems maybe if the Devs are doing something stupid.

As I said it is my server which is running 7d/24h on which I'm playing with MY FRIENDS!

You are mixing all kind of Multiplayer games together. But we talking here about a survival sandbox game (like Minecraft, 7D2D, aso) with an dedicated server, on which I AM IN CONTROL of the server and what is going on.

BTW: These are all Multiplayer issues that you are using to defend your Singleplayer game! They will never happen in a SP game.

Quoting: wvstolzingIt's been more than a year since I played with this, but right from the start, you could install an X-server for windows (I think I used something called x-ming), set $DISPLAY inside the console, and launch GUI applications that way. I can't remember if I tried launching an entire desktop environment, but it definitely ran openbox on an X root window, inside windows.

(By the way, I don't know what the professional use cases might be for the Linux subsystem, but trying to do stuff on an NTFS formatted disk which doesn't recognize unix file permissions sure is irritating.)
Well I use Cygwin or MobaXterm if I need an X-Server on Windows :).

For the filesystem you might want to look into ACLs. They are more powerful then the "normal" unix file permissions and kinda a common ground if it comes to Windows and NTFS. They are also perfect to annoy your colleagues *hihi*

Quoting: g000hNot saying that it will, there's a long way to go - Planet Nomads might end up with a better single player game, by dropping multiplayer and focussing on making the single player game as good as they can.

Here are some issues that you get with Multiplayer gaming:

- waiting for a game (i.e. queuing before you're able to start a session)
- playing against hackers/cheaters
- people who are vastly above or below you in terms of ability (poor matching)
- connectivity problems, e.g. lag
- griefers / trolls, i.e. people wanting to upset other people
- people with higher spec hardware having an advantage
- time management, i.e. making time to fit in playing (and your co-op partners making time, too)
- other players who are extreme, reactionary, volatile, e.g. dumb kids
- spawn camping, i.e. a camper who waits at a spawn point
- pay to win
- PvP games where a powerful group of people dominates the map stopping anyone else get a foothold
Erm..No! Doesn't happen on my own dedicated server on which I play with friends. :)

Quoting: g000hJust having a look at the netmarketshare data myself. Amused that 90.70% Windows + 5.94% Mac + 3.37% Linux + 0.00% others = 100.01% total. Yes, I know, it's only rounding errors. Funny though.
That is just a rounding issue. I'm sure they calculating it with Excel xD

Quoting: mayoI believe that most of this "new" Linux Users come from the Windows App Store. thanks to the linux subsystem. I believe i read that one can install the ubuntu gui on windows.
Does the GUI work now? I thought it was console only? Sorry for stupid questions, but I have no "Windows App Store" available to give it try :D

Quoting: Power-Metal-GamesThan I gave up, restarted computer and log in to Linux where EVERYTHING is working perfectly and where nothing similar will ever happen. So, it's not strange that people are running away from Windows, but it's strange that Linux and MacOS users are complaining about such a good operating systems that they are using.
Welcome to Linux! I'm using it for over 20 years now. We are not complaining, we are discussing! Also even our good operating system has some flaws, which needs to be addressed :)

Quoting: BreezeI like to play survival games alone. Because they are dropping multiplayer and coop to focus on single player, I am going to put this game on my wish list and pick it up when it goes on sale.
Sorry, I don't get you Loners! What kind of logic is that? Now because the have dropped multiplayer you are suddenly interested in a game which you could have played alone for a long time already. By waiting for a sale, which we had about 2 weeks ago, doesn't show much appreciation for the developers effort in making this game anyway.

However I have requested a refund, because of dropping multiplayer. It is way to boring alone. Crafting is kinda idiotic.

Quoting: lucifertdarkThe 5 minute menu freeze on startup that I've had since day one has finally vanished, that was the main thing that stopped me playing, now I can actually get into the game & start playing straight away instead of going off & making a cup of coffee while I wait for the menu to wake itself up again.
I still have this issue, also that I have to start the game at least 3 times before I can play it. But then it looks like <censored> and I'm quitting it. It is still no fun to play it on Linux :(

Albion Online set to expand with some large updates planned

Couldn't agree more. The game is boring, repetitive, a grinding hell and unimaginative. Haven't played it much over the last weeks anymore. No fun! Wasted money! :(

There are also still problems with the GUI, where you can't search for a guild by name. The Chat is also garbage, without language filters. There are way to many posts, spams, which makes you turn it off. Then you can "mute" 10 players only.

Looks like GOG Galaxy won't come to Linux any time soon, as it's "not a priority"
19 Aug 2017 at 9:54 am UTC

Well, because of the still missing Galaxy Client and poorly Linux Support I have a lot more games on Steam meanwhile and spend a lot more money on Steam & other Stores then on GOG. Meanwhile I fill my Library on GOG only if the games on Sale, with at least 80% off.

In short: GOG sucks!
