KDE developer thinks they will become the 'Windows or Android' of the FOSS world

I really doubt it, its way to buggy and slow compared to gnome atm, they where catching up, but then gnome released gnome 41 and its even faster then xfce. Since I am a gamer I always look for the desktop that runs the best with games, it used to be xfc but now its gnome, on my machine at home the difference is small but its there, at work on a slow i3 with integrated graphics gnome is way faster then kde in games.

If I understand it right, its only for AMD, so useless for the majority of Linux gamers since most run nvidia.

Manjaro Linux 21.1.0 Pahvo is out with installer improvements, new desktop upgrades

Quoting: LinuxScouserManjaro was my first taste of what it was like on an Arch based distro. I still haven't quite figured out how to run pure Arch as setting up my various installed drives and partitions purely by command line still terrifies me to this day.

I might have stuck with Manjaro if it wasn't for various issues like the author mentioned. The thing that decided it for me was the constant breakages of packages from the AUR which relied on dependencies from the Arch repositories which Manjaro always lagged behind on due to what seems like a good idea on paper. However, in reality there were still issues that occurred with updates for me which is what made me move on to the likes of Endeavour and Archcraft.

This is still a nice distro to help dip your toe into what an Arch-like environment feels like for those who've mostly been used to Debian-based derivatives.
Well most of those things layout maker does is only a a couple of clicks away with extensions, so its not really needed.

MATE 1.26 is out now with big changes like initial Wayland support

Quoting: BielFPs
Quoting: SamsaiThe situation is actually the other way around: Nvidia doesn't support wlroots (since they don't support GBM).
That's what I thought, it's important to make those things clear nowadays...
Well Nouveau is useless unless you got a really old nvidia card, it has like 10% of the performance of the official drivers so thats not an option.

GOverlay just got an awesome update to make editing MangoHud even easier

Quoting: dziadulewiczNow all common users need is a snap or a flatpak to install right from a software center of a distro
Well its in aur and chaotic aur, and manjaros official repo, so 50% of distros or so its already there without having to resort to a crappy snap or flatpak.

MATE 1.26 is out now with big changes like initial Wayland support

Quoting: BielFPsI wish Mate and XFCE team could join forces to adopt and support wlroots compositor in order to improve it. I think those awesome but underfunded projects would have a lot to gain from this kind of mutual collaboration.
No thx wlroots has no nvidia support at all. New version of Mate still lacks vsync by default, come on mate team, forcing full composition pipeline is still not a good way to get rid of the tearing.
