Quoting: Liam DaweAs I understand it, the main point is ensuring parity with the default files otherwise Steam will overwrite it and it won’t work. Yes it will overwrite any extras you put in it but the purpose of this guide was this alone.Yeah, I got that and it's a cool article. I hope my questions didn't come across as trying to undermine your tutorial. I was just curious about the technical details. It's a very cool hack.
Quoting: dosThanks for the info and explanation. I didn't realize truncate would resize and not just cut as the name implies. It isn't something I've used. This makes a lot more sense now.Quoting: randylThe change you're supposed to apply actually makes the file a bit smaller (you edit `0` to `1` and `300px` to `100%` twice), so the point of that truncate command is to make the file larger again to match the original size.Quoting: PhiladelphusPretty cool idea. Do you need the CSS line with flex-grow if you render the video natively at 1280×800?I'm curious how truncating the css file doesn't cause problems as well. It's a source file with information in it. What happens to that information?
Also, clearly it works so I must be missing something, but how does truncating the CSS file after you've added something to it not cause something important to be truncated from the end?

Truncating the video file makes a bit more sense, but still makes me wonder if setting the file size in an editor isn't better/safer. I'm not that familiar with the truncate command, but I guess it closes the file properly? Some files like RTF, PDF, and some image files have footer information and simply truncating bits/bytes at the end of the file can corrupt it.
Anyway, I guess it works and the video explanation by Liam is very well done so my pedantic concerns aside, well done!

I wish US anti-trust regulators would dig into Nvidia because they're absolutely abusing their dominant market position to the detriment of consumers. That is the core trigger for the Sherman Act and other US antitrust law.
The base edition of this card is $200 more than the 3080FE (which MSRP'd at $699). This is absolutely bonkers.
I'm also waiting for RDNA3 and have hopes that something power efficient, which matters a lot to me, will be on the table from AMD. For now I'll stick with the 1660ti I have.

I hate to admit it but I like Disney Dreamlight Valley — works well on Steam Deck / Linux

I really like this game. Didn't think I would but it's a very casual building decorating sim with cooking, fishing, and resource harvesting. The main thing to do is build reputation with Disney NPCs, run their quests, and decorate the zones and houses. It has a lot of the same play loops that Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley has, but a bit more casual.
The basic version comes with PC GamePass so that's how I got to try it out. I'll probably buy a nicer package a little later one when I'm sure I'll keep playing it. The game is heavily built on cosmetics, but in addition to the outfits you can unlock you can also design clothing based on motifs you unlock through game play. Game Loft has said they will keep their microtransactions to cosmetics which is fine I suppose. There are a lot of progression perks they could sell too which I hope they do not, but since it's largely single player (with a future multiplayer aspect in the works) I guess it doesn't matter.
The founders packs come with some exclusive cosmetic swag and then a ton of what will be their game cash. There is an event system styled on the battle pass concept. No rewards in this event are locked behind a premium status.

The depot and launcher have been patched. I didn't even see it on my download page, but it now works without any workarounds now. Of course now it fires up the launcher where they try and sell you stuff because Capitalism is gonna capitalize.
NVIDIA are teasing something, likely their RTX 40 series GPU (updated)

This is somewhat unexpected for me and has thrown a huge wrench into my upgrade plans. I have a 1660ti and have been trying to find the right card to deliver 1440p/144Hz at decent settings at the best power/performance/price. I'm not sure a 3060ti can do it, although it shines on power consumption. The 3070ti is a lot closer and the RX-6800XT would certainly do the best job of the there but is the most expensive and power hungry. I was hoping 40xx, Navi 32, and Navi 33 would offer some alternatives for thought. Well, now it seems I'm back to square one.

Quoting: EgonautUnlikely that Nvidia will announce the 40 series. Two reasons: 1) Jensen Huang said in the investor meeting in August that the 40 series will come next year. 2) Nvidia usually doesn't announce Gaming hardware on the GTC, and they also have an AI Page online [External Link] for the GTC-Your news seems to correlate with a recent article I read on GPU mag where the only possible release this holiday would be an RTX-4090.

The one thing I haven't tried is spoofing the launcher executable because I'm not going to put that much effort into it at this point. I can execute the binary directly and that works, but throws a few warnings. That's on Windows though so I'm not sure if linking directly to the binary will work on Linux.

Quoting: parkerlreedBioshock 1 Remastered is broken even with this. There's ZERO launcher files in the depot and it complains that it can't find LauncherPatcher.exeThat's what I'm talking about. I've tried removing and reinstalling. Verifying. Tried all the fixes. Nothing works and I'm running Windows 11. The files aren't there in the depot. Putting the executable path with -nointro %command% into the start options doesn't work.
Did they silently push an update fucking it over even more?
Verified files. Nothing there.

This whole fiasco is just because they want to pump microtransactions through their store front and have analytics running while their launcher is active. It's deplorable.

Quoting: F.UltraOne problem is that the posted fixes is for the Windows version of the games but Bioshock Infinite have a perfectly fine native version, anyone know if there exists a fix for this as well or is Protom the only way to fix it?Not that it is probably any consolation but the Windows "fixes" I've found on Reddit and various places don't work for me or a lot of people. When I try any of the fixes I still get the missing launcher executable popup. The only way I can start the game is by executing the BioshockHD.exe file itself.

Why is Embracer sticking with 2K for publishing anyway? Are they still under contract until some distant date? The business politics of the industry baffles me.
edit: I'm an idiot. I thought Embracer Hoovered up this IP along with Gearbox and Borderlands, but I was wrong. Man, I freaking hate 2K.

Regarding the company, this sounds horrible and they strike me as incredibly unprofessional. Don't think I'd want to do business with them at all unless maybe they sold packages through a reputable retailer.

Quoting: constGosh, reddit is really at it's worst about it.Lashing out isn't appropriate, but like it was said above that seems a reddit specialty. On the other hand it sounds like you tried to dismiss a seemingly valid complaint by someone who spent money on a product only to have a sketchy company play shenanigans. That is rude and infuriating. It doesn't matter what the product is, someone spent money and to have random people come in and white knight for a janky company only escalates the frustration. Getting screwed over by businesses not fulfilling their promises, while having little to no recourse, is maddening. It makes people feel helpless so of course they're going to get emotional. Why would you not empathize instead and then come to this forum for validation? Did you maybe consider you were part of the emotional escalation issue as well and that's why people down-voted you? I probably would have too if I had seen that thread and comment. What we need is more empathy in this world not people telling others to suck it up and deal with it. But then maybe I'm reading too much into all this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I replied to some very angry guy that it's just about another case, so there is no need to get emotional.
He replied so angry that his post was deleted by some mods without me asking for it, yet my post was downvoted like crazy. Don't really care for the downvotes, it's reddit. Just wanted to illustrate how mobbish the mob has become.
I want real community forums back, reddit is cancer.
