Well, what a surprise,

After contacting Feral support because the game was not starting on my SteamOS, here is Feral's reply:

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for contacting us.

I'm afraid this game is not supported on SteamOS.

Please could you send us some more information about your system setup? You can find the system information through Steam > Help > System Information.

Once we have more information we can look into the issue further.

Best regards,
Sam Gardener

Life is Strange released for Linux & SteamOS, some thoughts and a port report included
21 Jul 2016 at 8:24 pm UTC

I'm quite disappointed with the performance of this port. I'm playing on intel [email protected], 8gb ram, gtx 960 and it's very sluggish. I'm guessing this port is not dual core friendly as everything else is way above minimum specs... Also windows requirements are way lower compare to Linux. Looks like this port will need some optimisations ...

GOL Asks: What Game Are You Looking Forward To Playing?
16 Sep 2015 at 6:29 pm UTC

- Grid Autosport
- Alien: Isolation
- Witcher 3

BTW, gamingonlinux is not displaying properly on SteamOS (can't scroll down) I tried many other websites which are all working fine ... That's a bit of a shame for linux/Steamos dedicated gaming site :-s

???

I just want to know if this is specific to my configuration ([email protected] GTX960), because I stopped playing now, waiting for an eventual performance update...
I'm playing with a 960 with settings between high and very high and I'm not experiencing that. i5 processor/8gb ram.
Thanks, so the only difference between your setup and mine is the number of threads the processor can handle I guess... and system requirement are minimum i5. I will have to think about a new processor, especially with Vulkan coming ... Damn it!!! I loved that little beast.

Quoting: ColoneilYep, seems random to me too. Maybe texture loading in the graphic card ram? I only have a 2Gb card and 4Gb is recommended, what about you? Any comment on this from the (still awesome) feral guys appreciated ;-)
According to a random website, the official vmem requirement for the game at 1080p is 2 gigs for the Medium texture quality setting and 4 GiB for High. 6 GiB for Ultra when the hd texture pack is installed. No mention of the effect of other settings, but I got the impression that this is with at least reasonable AA.

Seems a bit memory hungry to me.
This is really weird, I tried the game with the lowest settings and still getting the slow downs. I'm starting to think of my hard drive being to slow when loading things ... ??? I will have to investigate tomorrow ...
Ok so I did some testings and found a spot in the game where theses slowdowns are always happening, this allowed me to check my hdd led which is not blinking at all during the slowdowns, it looks therefore that this is not an hard drive loading issue... I also took a video of the slowdowns which are occurring whatever the settings (slowest or very high) ... View video on youtube.com

Quoting: ColoneilAnyone else also getting framerate drops sometime? I have a GTX 960 on steamos and getting an average of 60fps on high settings in the benchmark but for some reason sometimes the games really slow down for a few seconds ...
I've tried to pinpoint a particular setting that might be causing it, but I can't find one. It also seems to happen randomly. You can do the same action twice and might not get the same fps drop.
