VR is absolutely insane, I am officially a convert and it works mostly great on Linux

Quoting: scaineFinally, Liam, yeah, starting Pulseaudio often fixes crackling, but sometimes it doesn't for me. Rare, but on those occasions, I found that stopping SteamVR, then doing a systemctl --user restart pulseaudio
...will do the trick (although you'll probably have to re-select the HMD sound output again).
Interestingly enough, I do not recognise what you guys talk about here as a general issue. There's been single games where I've had audio issues, but those are few and far between and in those case I've also had severe performance issues.
And I'm thinking, could that have something to do with me having configured my system for low latency audio production?

I am running the low-latency kernel, and have elevated my priority in regards to real time scheduling. No idea if that can be of relevance at ALL, but it MIGHT be worth testing:

You will need to edit
the /etc/security/limits.conf file and add:

@audio - rtprio 90
@audio - nice -10
@audio - memlock 500000
And add your user to the audio group. You may want to tune the numerical values, but the most important point here is to grant realtime priviledges to your account.

Liam, here's some titles I'd really recommend you add to your wish list, for each their reasons:

Pistol Whip
This is THE workout game for me. Incredibly cool art style, the whole experience is just so cool. You'll feel like a Jason Burne action agent.

Racket NX
Breakout Arcade action in VR! Fantastic fun.

Space Pirate Trainer
Shoot'em Up Arcade action in VR! Equally fun, a total blast.

Moss
This is such a beautiful game, and a very interesting demonstration of how a platformer can work in VR, where you control your small character from a birds view perspective.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
One of the few "full" storyline games we have for VR - and a great story it is too. Really a quality production.
An adventure game where you have a 3rd person over the shoulder perspective of your heroine. She's standing there in her full size in front of you. And the battles are taking place in 1:1 scale.

Superhot VR
Because, well... It's Superhot. One of the real VR classics that everyone should have played through. And I loved it. A bit frustrating at times, but some really cool scenes to be solved there.

Wow, congrats dude! FINALLY!

Now we can get some real VR coverage, from a Linux gamer perspective. Excellent!

You should have told me man, I'd chip in on the purchase :)

Metro Exodus from 4A and Deep Silver has officially released for Linux

Report on a Ubuntu/GTX1080 user: First time I ran it, in the main menu before I was able to do anything it suddenly changed resolution in that weird way where the actual resolution were larger than the visual resolution (leading to having to scroll the screen by moving the mouse). I exited the game and re-started it, now it worked, I could change resolution to native and all was swell.

Starting the game, all smooth at around 60FPS on High settings, with some dips down to 50ish. Seems very stable, responsive and solid for what little I've played so far. Works well on both controller and mouse/keyboard.

So apart from that weird resolution thing at first startup, this seems to be a rock solid port thus far!

I'll buy mine, so no entry in the draw on me.
But it would be really really REALLY interesting to see a performance comparison with Proton VS native on this one.

What have you been playing recently, come tell your thoughts

Still Witcher 3 here.

And I have never in my life experienced a game with more content than this one. This is the first time ever in my decades long gamer career where I truly feel I can not do it all, it's not practically possible, I can not do it all without completely out-levelling the whole thing. I am not MEANT to do it all - I am *meant* to pick and choose.

And that is totally new to me.

Add to that the fact that the side missions mostly feel like being part of the main campaign - they are all genuine small stories fully rigged with voice actors, genuine loot, cut scenes and everything - and you really are part of a world that really is breathing and living, where your story is just carved out of the random decisions you make along the way.

An overwhelmingly fantastic game.

Well, VR games are typically not the most visually complex games. But I also have a theory; I have a strong feeling almost all VR games are developed on the same engine: Unity.

And that makes it even more annoying that they don't just render out a Linux version too, while they are at it.

I may be wrong though. But I do know that Unity has VR well implemented and I think I have seen Unity mentioned in SOME of the games.

Quoting: LanzIs VR still a major pain to get running on Linux?
This seems to very much depend on your setup. A while ago there was an article here on GOL where the author had his fair share of issues with a multi-monitor setup (and AMD card I think?).
For me, I have a single screen and a Nvidia card on Ubuntu and it was practically plug'n'play, it all went surprisingly smooth. So I guess it "depends".

It's also worth noting that VR games - for whatever reason - seem to work particularly well on Proton. There's not many (Windows) VR games at all I've not gotten to work straight out of the box.
