GitLab takes down Nintendo Switch emulator suyu due to the DMCA

"previously received a DMCA notice"

But was it an actually legit DMCA? Does the project contain any copyrighted material?

At the same time I actually doubt they would bother to properly check. They can't even be bothered to fix well known 5 year old bugs so they're probably not gonna do something for someone else when it also could go into legal matters.

Playtron plan to launch PlaytronOS, a Linux-based system for gaming

They work for Playtron, previously at those other companies. Added "previously" to clarify that.
Fair enough, then it seems it's not a complete sham. But then it's really weird that they have all these experienced people and they make such a stupid decision of grabbing someones elses video.

Quoting: Liam DaweOne of the videos used in The Verge's article supplied by Playtron was also hit with a copyright strike, as Playtron took it from someone. Not a good start....
Many others are involved who have developer experience from the likes of Google, Amazon, Red Hat, Meta, Samsung, SEGA and more.

With the video being stolen this is starting to smell more like a scam that's trying to look legit by throwing around big names.

Knock knock. Who's there? More scam apps on Canonical's Snap Store!

Quoting: kerossinOk, so what's the point of the Snap Store?

I thought the whole point of having a closed and official Canonical-controlled store was trust - you will be getting only legit apps approved by Canonical and not some wild west of community sources.

But since Canonical does no checks it's pointless.

Well, the original point of having a Snap store was to have containerized desktop apps on Linux desktop.

Anyway, is this happening on Flathub too, or snap is just more discussed with this issue?
I think you're conflating Snaps themselves and the Snap Store.

I'm not talking about the actual packaging of apps, I'm talking about the place where you get them.

Canonical chose to keep the store itself proprietary and not have the stores configurable in their implementation of snapd.

All older games being sold in Germany on Steam now require a content rating
2 Mar 2024 at 6:15 pm UTC

"I like to know what I'm getting into" so why not look at what you're buying? Read the description? Watch the trailer? I guess that's too hard.

I don't think the ratings are a big problem but people who can't understand what they're buying without an ESRB or similar logo are just plain stupid.

Valve seeing increasing bug reports due to Steam Snap - other methods recommended
17 Jan 2024 at 6:24 pm UTC Likes: 1

I've been running Steam Flatpak on openSUSE Tumbleweed for over a year (maybe 2 years, can't remember) and had no problems.

Would be great if Valve would officially support Steam Flatpak, it would cover a lot more distros than just the Debian family but I believe it wouldn't be that much more work since it uses specific versions of Flatpak runtimes.

Edit: Also, funny how they hired more devs to work on Snap support in other distros while their own doesn't work properly yet.

Canonical give some thoughts on the future of Ubuntu Desktop
25 Aug 2023 at 3:37 pm UTC Likes: 4

"Ubuntu Desktop team continues to "grow rapidly"" this is surprising considering their ridiculous and lengthy hiring process.

"they're bringing Netplan to Ubuntu Desktop to "deliver a more unified experience for those managing Ubuntu across both server and desktop"" last time I managed Ubuntu servers I ripped out Netplan and just used systemd-networkd directly. It's just a poorly implemented wrapper around systemd-networkd configs.

Sorry Arch (EndeavourOS), it's not working out any more and hello Fedora

One rolling distro alternative is openSUSE Tumbleweed. Have been using it for some time now and had very few problems with it. Worth checking out.

It's saddening what propaganda can do to people.
Whose propaganda? Western?))

It will be difficult for Poles to return to the Russian market. Formally, they will return, but they have lost their respect and fans completely.
Not as difficult as Russia gaining back respect.
