They're both side-scrolling adventure games, aren't they? It's like comparing it to I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream or Quest For Glory. (To be honest it's been a while since I played through Whispering Willows, so I may be misremembering. According to Steam I got the Sixth Sense on February 12th, 2020.)

I've gotta say, the little bit of goodwill Nintendo gets from me from their social programs [External Link] really goes to waste when they go after projects like this. Let's hope 5 years from now, when they've moved on to the successor of the Switch, Switch emulators can finally get developed in peace.

I don't know what to say, I've been on the Beta channel since I got my Steam Deck late last year and I haven't experienced any breakage. Maybe Valve does region-based rollouts?

That's weird, I've never had my Deck be unbootable... I guess even with identical hardware specs and the same software machines can behave differently still.

Well, the people who work at the patent office can't know everything, so especially when a large important entity like Nintendo comes along I can well imagine they just do a cursory glance at the application, briefly consider if they know anything that would be an issue with it, and just give the okay.

Anyway, my expectation is that Nintendo isn't going to take it all the way to court, they're probably aiming at an out-of-court settlement and if that doesn't happen they'll probably back off.

Unfortunately, yes (at least, last time I gave GNOME a run): I opened the system settings and went into the keyboard shortcuts settings and changed everything that made no sense, but after that when I was working I still found various key combinations that GNOME intercepted (I believe... Ctrl+F7, which lets me edit the most recently recorded keyboard macro, and maybe other things? I must admit I didn't really keep track of it all), and I couldn't find the shortcuts defined in the keyboard shortcuts system settings. I even tried installing the tweak tool, but it doesn't seem to have a section for keyboard shortcuts, so I just decided to call it quits.

Last time I had to use OSX (I believe it was Yosemite?) I couldn't find out how to display hidden files in Finder and when I looked it up online the advice was to run a particular command on the CLI, and my reaction was 'dang, that's the joke people always make about us GNU/Linux users'.

To me, keyboard. Gnome feels far better and faster than trying to point and click/poke everything.

What exactly is the GNOME workflow? From what I've seen it's basically what I've got going here in LXQt+awesome: workspaces dedicated to tasks, very keyboard focused, minimal distractions,... with the difference that I can have different workspaces on either of my monitors (so I can have my development workspace on my left monitor and my communications workspace on my right monitor) and switch them independently.

Patents are fine, they expire after 20 years (after which anyone can use the patent so it contributes to our collective advancement of science and innovation). Copyright with its 'life of author + 90 years' is absolute cancer.

EDIT: there are also ways to get patents declared invalid. A patent needs to be properly registered and published, it needs to be novel, it needs to be non-obvious, and there's also a bunch of jurisdiction-dependent requirements around whether something actually can be patented.

Basically I'm saying that patents are a million times more reasonable than copyright and despite patent trolls being a nuisance I still think the benefits (allowing inventors to profit off their inventions) outweigh the disadvantages (stupid lawsuits).

A couple of weeks ago I decided to check whether my PlayStation Vita still works, and it does, so I've put some hours into Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

Good thing about the Vita is it fits in my pocket, as much as I love the Steam Deck, it's WAY~ too massive for that. Insert your favourite bigger is better joke here.
