I may give kwin another try but I just know it'll still be EWMH compliant and therefore terrible on multiscreen.

Quoting: Nick_AvemThe steam Flatpak has caused me Infinitely less headaches than any native package.Unfortunately I have had less than awesome experiences with Flatpak, but I still think it's a great way to distribute applications for all distros. That said I personally use Guix because I have had much better experiences with it.
System76 are doing some serious magic with Pop!_OS and Auto Tiling

Quoting: setzer22Since I installed i3, I had to admit that only I can use my computer... Nobody will go through the trouble of learning your set of keybindings. You can imagine this leads to frustration when pair-programming... And wms like i3 do not play well with games. All in all, being able to opt-out of tiling at the click of a button comes in very handy.Yeah, that's why I use Awesome as the WM for KDE. Plenty of mouse interaction possibility for those who don't want to learn how to switch between workspaces, apps, or sorting options.

Quoting: GuestWhy LPDDR4 ... Like i know is faster, but is a huge turn off for me, id like to upgrade my ram, and id like to know that if the ram fails i can replace it myself..sigh, this is one thing that keeps me from buying these new thinkpads. I mean they look good and all, and i bet they are impressive but i want to be able to ,under the hood, deal with things myself.Same, I've had to re-seat RAM on my laptop once and it seems ridiculous that I'd have to buy a new one just for that.

Sorry, I was ranting. To get back on topic: it's good that GNOME has been updated, but they should really try and get along with others (we were talking about getting GTK theme colours on the Emacs Devel mailing list [External Link]).

Better multi-monitor supportBecause of EWMH MM support on GNU/Linux is not very good (you simply can't have workspaces on different monitors be independent of each other). WMs which break EWMH compatibility (like Awesome with its Tags) are therefore doing a good job of pushing usability forward. But those lack the surrounding infrastructure of a full DE so everything is terrible for ever until we get rid of EWMH.

Xfce desktop environment sees a 4.16pre1 release, better fractional scaling

Quoting: dibzI tracked down a bug report/request for this once and it turns out it was intentional due to some standard (FreeDesktop maybe? I don't recall) XFCE follows. If something in a DE is terrible by design and it's part of a standard it's almost guaranteed to be EWMH. It's what KDE cites as a reason to keep multiscreen horribly annoying.
