Quoting: PhreezeBut is it really necessary? usually you KNOW what day it is
Do I? After hours of breaking my brain I don't have the mental capacity for knowing which century it is, let alone which day of the week.

Customization galore
I tried COSMIC about a month or two ago and I was vastly underwhelmed by its customisation options. No clock format, no window decorations,... I know it's not KDE, but I want my clock to show the day of week (for example, Thursday), date in %F format (for example, 1970-01-01), and 24-hour clock without seconds (for example, 00:00).

As much as I like Valve for their investment in FOSS, things like this push me back to GOG. I understand they're a business and sometimes they make decisions based on what they think a portion of their customer base with different values than mine expect, and sometimes they make decisions based on pressure from more powerful entities (payment processors, my arch nemeses); but while I understand it, I don't like it and I'm gonna complain and vote with my wallet.

The RAM price and availability situation is going to worsen as Micron pull their Crucial consumer business

Quoting: AndrewWI was really hoping this year to get a ten-year gaming PC that can carry me happily through my backlog. Guess that's not happening.
Same, but I decided to just bite the bullet and get a new machine before RAM prices get insane (I'm actually getting 'high-performance' RAM with a discount compared to regular RAM for whatever reason, so I'm getting in while the getting's good).

As you can see, there were two games released this year which I really like and I wear my heart on my sleeve.

Hello from Fedora KDE

I've tried to install Fedora a few times now and every time I bounce off because I'm particular about my partitioning set up and the Fedora installer doesn't appreciate that (ESP on /efi instead of /boot/efi, both / and /home with btrfs but separate partitions instead of a single partition with submodules, full disk encryption with a bunch of specific options,...). Arch, Gentoo, and Guix all let me use the partitioning I like, but Gentoo's packages are too old for my liking and doing full disk encryption on Guix is a pain because Shepherd doesn't do the systemd multi-partition unlocking.

Playnite may get a Linux version during 2026 as the creator plans a move to Linux

'Video game library manager', huh? Well, we already have Lutris, Heroic, and Steam, but I suppose another one wouldn't hurt. I mean, there's something like half a million desktop environments, so ecosystem fragmentation isn't anything new.

Assetto Corsa Rally has arrived in Early Access - should work well on Linux / Steam Deck

How sim-heavy are these games ? I'm highly interested in a good Rally game, as long as it's fun with a controller and doesn't require the steering wheel etc.

Open to other Rally game recommendations as well
Assetto Corsa Rally (ACR) is far heavier on the sim side than the arcade side. If you try to drive it like it's DRIVE Rally or WRC (both more arcade-y, more controller-friendly games), you're gonna have issues. I've found WRC 9 to work pretty well on the Steam Deck (just had to bind the back paddles to shift up/down).
