Here's the most played Steam Deck games for May 2025
2 Jun 2025 at 7:57 am UTC

I have been playing some Neverwinter Nights 2. I have merged the Tome of Battle, Kaedrin's PRC Pack, and Races of Faerun mods and have played through the Original Campaign, Sean Maxhell SoulPath, Tomoachan, Asylum 1 and 2, and a few more modules. Currently playing through Dark Waters, but unfortunately the Tome of Battle additions don't really seem to work with it.

Steam Deck gets a big upgrade with SteamOS 3.7 and you can now install it on other AMD handhelds

The Plasma update isn't great, whenever I switch to desktop mode the screen brightness gets set to 33%, even though I always turn it down to 5%. I actually wanted to report that bug, but I didn't figure out where I needed to go (Valve's GitHub? Somewhere on the Steam forums? Is there a 'report issue' button somewhere?).

Search engines are getting worse, so OpenWebSearch funded by the European Union want to fix it

I've been using Brave's search engine and it seems fine (if you don't mind the little AI helper at the top). I suppose I could give Qwant a kick in the tires some time.

Minecraft will finally let you craft saddles instead of hunting for them

To be honest, this would've been more interesting if When Pigs Fly was still a thing (is it? I don't actually know).

So like, you stealth up to a wild saddle and put an arrow through it before it can get away?
Actually 'hunting for them' means picking through chests in randomly generated mineshafts, dungeons, nether fortresses,... looking for them. There have been various mods which add their own recipes for crafting saddles, but this isn't the first time the Minecraft devs have added a quality of life improvement that used to be part of a mod (used to be that near every tech mod added its own version of copper, which of course resulted in mods being created to make all that stuff compatible with each other).

Here's a statement from Valve on the reported Steam data breach

The Steam app is 1) not open source, and 2) not available on Ubuntu Touch. That all despite the fact that its 2FA code generation is standard TOTP. Yet they don't allow you to just use regular TOTP 2FA because they want to show a pop-up for trades. So yeah, Valve can go deep-throat a cactus, I'm just gonna stick to e-mail + SMS.

Steam's Creature Collector Fest is live now so go catch some deals

I am quite annoyed at Monster Sanctuary because they did release early access in-development builds on Itch, but the full release is only available on Steam and, much as I love Valve, it feels like a bait-and-switch.

EA and Codemasters no longer making WRC (World Rally Championship) or any other rally games

Ah well, we'll always have RBR (Richard Burns Rally).

Breath of Fire IV for PC returns with an updated GOG release, plus more games join the GOG Preservation Program

Nice, BoFIV is a great game. I only wish I could play it, but it's far too tragic for me to manage, I just turn into a sobbing mess.

Ubuntu 25.04 upgrades halted due to Kubuntu users getting a broken desktop

Beta users shouldn't feel responsible, if a thing requires pyqt6 (or anything else) and the system doesn't have that component installed by default and the package declaration doesn't include a 'requires pyqt6' statement; then the build system should error and the package shouldn't build. That's what RPM buildroots are for (and it's why the Arch wiki recommends building in a clean chroot).
