Quoting: pleasereadthemanualOh, and sharing files is more of a pain to set up than with Virtualbox.Well that depends on what you define as pain. I use Gnome boxes with 'Sync-thing' and to my amazement it just worked directly from host to client & vise versa. Fast too. In fact the syncing of downloads from a VM pushed to the local machine is better than mere shared folders, in my use case anyway.

With Google stadia they wanted to become barons of gaming. Rent your games forever and own nothing, kick you out and lose everything when you cant afford the admission fee or have opinions they don't like.
Glad it's finally gone. And if the financially successful Steam Deck is proving anything, it's that people actually like to OWN PHYSICAL THINGS they can touch.

Steam deck 2.0 FTW i think that will be a goto for lots of peoples summer gaming, you can sit outside in the shade and still game. Things really are changing in the PC gaming world and you would think given the success of Nintendo switch powered by nvidia, they would of have released/teased a Steam deck equivalent by now instead of focusing on the wealthiest gamers and industrial customers.

Quoting: iskaputtAnd here is me, contemplating when to get a new card in the ~200 watts, 400-500 Euros region. My absolute limit for a PC in total watts is around 275 - 300w, when you factor in a couple of monitors. Summers without AC means i barely get to play a game for a long period of time before the temperature creeps up especially in humid weather. I suppose it depends on the building and room size, but for me i can't imagine doubling that ! let alone the energy costs.

350 - 450TDP. Summer is going to be real fun when running this along side a 250w intel CPU and the all the accessories. Buying used isn't going to solve that a few years down the line, not to mention a used buyer is still going to need a high quality power supply, its not like you can bung one of these in a $50 case with a $50 PSU either without issues.
I just bought a cheap Mini PC for every day tasks to save on power. Given the current and probably 'new normal' electricity prices i considered it essential. To my surprise in everything other than gaming it works wonders. It's completely silent, running Standard Linux Mint 20.1 on MESA drivers. It plays all the way upto 4k 60FPS ! @ 15w on youtube. Which is no mean feat compared to my thirsty older desktop PC which can't even play 1080p 60 without dropping a few frames (due to lack of hardware acceleration) using 115w when only watching a YT or Twitch stream !
Seriously, invest in a cheap power meter of some kind and be amazed at how much a desktop is costing you doing practically nothing. Not to mention other household appliances. I have an old TV we practically use as a heater in winter because it is CCFL backlit and uses a ton of power and its only 32"!
I think when im just running a mini PC and a steam deck in winter im going to need an extra pair of socks while gaming.
That's a thought.. maybe you could use these new NVidia GPU's as a foot heater.. 🤔️

is the QR code like the TOTP feature on KeepassXC, as in you can store your TOTP number in a database to use to login but use the QR code feature instead of the timed cryptographic number.

This thing is going to revolutionize the mobile laptop space and manufacturers still have their hands over their eyes stuck in the lets pretend 'pandemic prices forever' mindset. This thing is £349 and plays the majority of PC games.Recent 'gaming' laptops releases are priced between £2,000 £4,000 ! and honestly there not even really that portable.
This means you can actually PC game without getting a 2nd mortgage.. on Linux no less.
yea.. I know, someone is going to say a laptop is way more versatile (disagree) and can play in higher fidelity, but how much does that actually matter right now ? Given the price of everything else in the current world. If you plug in a small self powered portable monitor to the steam deck and some bluetooth peripherals it's pretty much close to the usability of a laptop for coding and office applications at least.
Now imagine a better battery, a slightly better specification screen and the next custom AMD CPU/GPU. It really would be closing the gap. At the very least, still keep your PC rig for the big screen, multi-screen and then the deck for everything else.
laptop manufacturers like ASUS could come out with a compelling competitor but i doubt they could match on price and it would surely ship with winblows for the masses and be overpriced and filled with bloatware and a host of terrible aesthetic choices.

I suppose there is retroarch on steam but im not sure if the individual machine save states are backed up to the cloud ?

Quoting: EWGSo.. for keeping save files the same between machines SyncThing [External Link] might do the trick. Not only that but i have a habit of rebuilding my machine and losing all my retroarch saves states progress. So a pro-tip is to use sync thing for retro arch to backup your saves to a separate machine, for when retroarch invariably messes up or your machine is rebuilt.
I've got a dedicated low power machine for sync/backup, media playback, and torrenting open source games and libre OS ISOs.

It would be really nice if they could fix up the community servers section. Entering a custom match with any aftermarket maps just fails to load. It has been like this since forever. And this means no Zombie games, prop hunts, fun etc..
Not to mention the vanishing mouse issues which would be even more annoying to fix on steam deck as you cannot alt-tab to try bring it back.
With the maps it's probably a simple fix just down to naming convention differences between windows and Linux. Perhaps even as small as the difference between a capitalized file and not.
Can CS:GO be run on proton now ? That might be what i have to do. or install windows on the steam deck ...
joke ^

I guess i watched too much content and it got worn out :grin:Quoting: skaplonNetwork with a Realtek card :sick:I Never had a single problem with realtek network cards on linux.
Got so many problems with realtek, from plain not working to slow as molasses so many times on linux
Off course they have testing and making sure this one is good but is hard to get away from recent bad experience with it

Why are Dev's still using Windows when they are developing cross platform applications ? At least use a Mac and reduce the vector of attack. It just seems dumb at this point not to use something other than Windows when it is such a well known OS for vulnerabilities (or should that be POS)
idk im pretty biased towards Linux lol. Linux is the Swiss army knife of computing .. windows is the Swiss cheese of it.

Quoting: Tuxeeconversely this is a 'go between' microphone application so it actually fits the MO of a hacker or organization to target such a thing.Quoting: slaapliedjeThat is a weird, random one to target. This day and age it is no longer paranoia, someone is out to hack you.Why should this have been a deliberate and targeted attack? I suppose pretty much everyone (more so on Windows machines) can catch malware and become therefore compromised.
