Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Now Available DRM Free From GOG

Just because a game uses steamworks api doesn't mean you need steam to play it.
Want examples..
Goat simulator
Papa & yo Has full steam integration and yet isn't even on steam for linux. But if you play it while steam is open you get the achievements and stuff unlocking in steam.
Serious Sam 3
Even your beloved Amnesia Games can be played without steam after downloading them (haven't tried a machine for pigs tho)
I wont't go on you get the idea

Show me some links that show steam promoting drm that really is drm

It isn't off topic at all this is about a drm free version of the game right?
and I was replying to Sered 2 posts before mine who said

Quoting: Sered
Quoting: HamishWhile I do intend to buy it as I really should play a Bioware title at some point considering they are supposed to be the local golden boy developer from where I am from, paying $20 for a game is a bit too steep for my blood at the moment.
10 bucks at steam, if you can live with the drm ;)
Also how was my post unhelpful? your answer to me which is full FUD is what was unhelpful to anyone. Not only are you some sort of anti-drm fanatic, but your a misinformed one too.
And very rude too I might add.

Most linux games on steam have no drm. After you download them, you can run them without steam.
Steam doesn't enforce drm of any sort. That is completely up to the developers of the game.
You can find lists of them with google.
Some games only work if you delete the supplied libsteam_api.so from the games folder, but most don't need you to do this.

Steam is nothing but an easy way to buy/download and play games with your friends.
So you drm-free people stop spreading fud.

Shroud Of The Avatar: Forsaken Virtues RPG Released On Steam For Linux

Looks good. 2 things hold me back atm.

1st - it uses the Unity engine. Which rings alarm bells in my head. It's performance is abysmal for anything other than simple games like side scrolling platformers.(even in windows)
Only a couple of devs have ever proved it can be done (eg. Interstellar Marines, Verdun) but even still those game would have been better in virtually any other modern engine.

2nd - Early access has treated me bad. A couple of devs have done a great job with it. But most just suck.

I will keep my eye on it. Really think they should of used Unreal 4 engine though :(

Quoting: SXX
Quoting: Segata SanshiroI keep thinking with 0AD and SuperTuxKart that they should put it on digital distribution platforms and charge money.
They already disscussed it here:
http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16476 [External Link]
Basically they don't want to put unfinished game here.
They should just use "Early Access" where it is fully allowed to take years to reach a finished state.

hmm I might look into helping them with some code.

Natural Selection 2 Community Developers Need OpenGL Help

So are these Community devs getting paid to maintain the Linux version?? Maybe a cut of linux sales? Or is Unknown worlds just sitting back reaping the profits while letting others do the work for them?

Trine Enchanted Edition Now In Beta For Linux On Steam
15 Nov 2014 at 1:25 am UTC Likes: 3

Fantastic game, Still been playing the original from humble to this day. It still works fine if you change out some of their included libs. I love Frozenbyte, just wish that didn't make us all wait so long for Trine 1 on steam. Look forward to more games from them in the future.

Here's a tip!
Just like in Trine2, To stop Trine running at a disgusting 30fps go and edit
~/.frozenbyte/Trine1/options.txt

Find this line near the bottom
setOption(gameBaseApplicationModule, "TargetSmooth30FPS", true)

and change it to false like this
setOption(gameBaseApplicationModule, "TargetSmooth30FPS", false)

Apparently this was implemented to save heat and power on laptops.

Satellite Reign Has A New Trailer, Early Access Next Month

@gamingonlinux we already have a Linux build up and running. It hasn't had as much love as the pc build but it is already on our radar :)

How do you give the linux build less love than the windows version when it's made with Unity engine?? Doesn't makes sense when you just press a button to get a build for linux, mac or windows.

Don't Starve Together Has A New Beta Trailer

I am highly disappointed so far. I got accepted into the beta, but can't play because no linux client yet :(
I do own the game and love it though. So I wish I could try the multiplayer.

The Talos Priniciple Public Test Released

Quoting: SkullyVery fun. Finished it already. Didn't find a single bug/problem. Now I am looking forward to this even more. Similar style to play as Portal.
How was the performance for you?

It's odd, but something is making me feel like it's sluggish.

Edit > I turned on the FPS counter and WOW LOW FPS.

It had my CPU set to ULTRA and everything else set to HIGH in the performance section. Heh their auto detect fails.
It auto detect ultra for my Cpu, Gpu and Gpu ram.
I did have to customise the "GPU Speed" section a little, just like in Serious Sam 3.
Turned off Antialiasing, Ambient occlusion, shadow antialiasing, reflections, and made sure Mpix is same as screen resolution.

After that smooth 60fps with vsync. According to in-game benchmark.
