Not so sure, Valve is implementing more and more modifications to Xorg and linux kernel to have a nice gaming platform. As they said at debconf, these patches will not be upstreamed, so there is chances steamOS ends as a "not so compatible" linux distribution, like android now.

Id say that's quite a leap unlike steamos the entire android stack that sits on the kernel is different from most distros. I think some of the things valve is referring to is stuff that makes the entire windows appear in full screen due to it being ment for use on a tv where they don't expect a consumer to have to touch settings.

But then again if it were to happen that would upset allot of people and I doubt valve wants to alienate the linux community and developers.

This survey can't be accurate im logged on linux all the time and have been every day, and I neer ever see they survey except if start up steam in windows.
