A new Valve game for the Steam Deck? It's not out of the realm of possibility

Should we take for granted that these tests have been done on SteamOS 3.0?

If so, what major breakthrough have they been able to achieve, with Proton, that they didn't share with us, yet? If not, what a major let down!
They're only talking about performance, not compatibility.
I bet this has been done on Windows.

Quoting: GuestThis whole thing is so fake, it's not like making/compiling drivers for other cpu architectures is anything new. On the contrary, this should be the bare minimum for all the arches out there. I wonder whats the profit angle on this one.
Making drivers for other architectures is a piece of cake?
You're serious?
I didn't say that.
Ok, I missunderstood you than. Yes, they could if they want (ed) to.

Quoting: denyasisAre people here upset that proton is possibly reducing the number of native ports or are you more update that proton/wine is possibly creating a platform independent target for devs to aim at where the standard is Windows?
I don't think you can really separate this. The problem with not having native ports is that the standard for the others (running on Proton) is Windows. You're literally running .exe files on Linux. With Unity or Godot or the like, you get Linux binaries.

Better not always on, better not compete with mouse players, better be playable in short sittings...

it will be interesting to see if more developers hop on the bandwagon (and we say that in the nicest way possible)
Dear developers, feel invited to our bandwagon, please take a cookie!

Steam Next Fest returns on October 1 with developers able to submit now

Quoting: PhiladelphusThat's cool about Valve limiting games to one appearance (per year, it sounds like) to give more devs a chance to show their stuff off. I know I've found a few games through previous Next Fests (demos help a lot for getting me interested in something coming!) and look forward to more in the future.
I find it even more cool that they seem to have enough developers doing demos to demand this! :)

Valve corrects the RAM specs for the Steam Deck, games should run nicely from SD Card

Quoting: slaapliedjeWould be pretty funny if the EFI didn't support secure boot, so specifically blocked Windows 11 from working... or missed TPM 2.0, etc.
🎉🥳

Quoting: ShmerlIf anything variable refresh rate can reduce power consumption of the screen, so sounds like a good feature for a portable device, but it requires extra logic in the display controller. Question is, is anyone making them? Though given Valve are designing their own hardware (to some degree), they can simply make it happen.
A quick search doesn't point in the direction of refresh rate changing display power consumption significantly. The actual glowing seems to be what's using the energy.
