Quoting: MicromegasMy recommendation is Debian stable with backports. (Not necessarily for beginners, though.)Quoting: soulsourceMy personal recommendation would still be Debian Stable. Apart from the installation process (Debian has by far the superior installer) it's like Ubuntu, but a lot more stable. And I really mean _a lot_ more stable. It seems that it's always a trade-off between latest drivers and updates (and the freedom to install newer software versions) versus a very reliable, stable computing environment. For me Mageia hits the sweet spot here as a very stable distribution for the non tech savvy user with lots of testing by the distribution maintainers and with major upgrades every 1.5 years. But I totally see that users have different needs, like a user of Void or a user of Debian (very) Stable.

Quoting: OdisejMy experience with Ubuntu 10.04 was not great. Steam was not working out of the box and such.Steam for Linux wasn't really in shape back in 2010 though. ;)

Quoting: AsciiWolfJust make sure to install Steam on Ubuntu from Valve website [External Link] and not distribution repository. The distro one is outdated and problematic, even on 20.10. It will hopefully be in a better shape in 22.04.This is the opposite I'm recommending everybody in the Steam forums (for any distribution). Because the distribution makers have the same package and more knowledge of their distribution than the user or even Valve. Is this claim based on anything?

I know what you mean, but DKMS made my Nvidia life so easy that I even keep forgetting about it.

Quoting: tuubiIt does look enticing, but the "Multiplayer Online" bit will keep it off my wishlist. I suppose this is for the extroverts among us.I think there's good online multiplayer somewhere out there, like there was polite deathmatch in Frozen Synapse.

Quoting: AnzaIn the article for the release, there was this parameter:That didn't work before the update yesterday - now my problem is solved even without the parameter! :)
-hwcursor
That could fix the input lag.

Quoting: BogomipsSounds nice, indeed. If you've got sensitivity problems, there's a script by the porter in the respective Steam thread. He says Unity has changed behaviour without notice (and that it does so often)...
But for me, after the last update, the -hwcursor launch parameter does not seem to work anymore.

There's a Steam thread [External Link] as well, mostly about mouse sensitivity, though.
I'm always unsure about this compositor stuff, I hope I already generally disabled it (KDE screenshot):

Quoting: tuubiI tried lowest graphics quality (added that to my post).Quoting: EikeI got severe mouse (and keyboard, it seems) lag. System is strong enough. Tried lower resolution, 60 Hertz, Vsync on and off, fullscreen on and off. Anybody got an idea?Did you try disabling AA and/or SSAO in game? I remember one or the other resulting in sluggish input in certain Unity games. Although that was back when my system was quite a bit weaker than yours. I guess you could try switching off your compositor as well.
