Only loosely connected, I don't understand people who do everything with the command line. There's uses for command line and uses for GUIs, IMHO.

Quoting: sbolokanovUNIX world is all about different opinions and ways of doing things. You don't expect everybody to be just like you, now do you?That's why I dislike this "You're doing it wrong!" attitude. Do what you're happy with, help others if they want to do it the same way, let those who want something else do something else.

Quoting: GuestWow, seems I've stirred things up with the fanboys. Cool down folks.Would you try not to get personal in the first sentence next time? Even more so when complaining about other people insulting? Thanks.
Quoting: GuestI've been one-click installing games through Steam, via wine, for years. With no troubles. Apparently I baked a wonderful cake quite some time ago.That's fine. For you. But it obviously doesn't help anybody else.
Quoting: Guest"Proton" has never run a single game for me that didn't run through vanilla wine. In many cases, vanilla wine runs a game that "Proton" won't. I don't see that being in favour of "Proton".To which argument is this a reaction? I cannot remember it...

Quoting: Patola...having said all that (from a mobile phone), my steam beta updated twice today but hasn't shown me the option to force steam play on the titles. :( Anyone else has that problem?I guess you already tried to turn it off and back on again?

* is easier to use,
* makes games count as Linux sale and
* offers Valve's support for the whitelisted games.

Quoting: GuestOk, still beta, but that doesn't change my original confusion: why the excitement over something that could already be done, and could be done for some time already? If I'm not clear, I honestly don't understand.While I got more concerns than being excited about Proton (and neither use WINE nor Proton for gaming), Proton..

Quoting: LinasMostly negative reviews, but when I look at the reviews themselves, only 3 of them are negative on the front page. :S:I'm always getting this. But you can filter for negative reviews to see why they disliked it.

(I though about writing up an article how to work around the mouse lag bug with fast polling mice...)

Quoting: tuubiThe project sure could use more contributors. Development seems active enough, but ripping out Allegro seems like a major undertaking nobody seems interested in tackling.Wouldn't updating Allegro be easier - and helping?

Quoting: PatolaI don't know, but suddenly Steam feels a lot more lonely without all that fake activity of 0-byte updates...They're trickung us into buying new games, just for the download queue...!

Quoting: PhlebiacNAT on the client side, SNI on the server side - and suddenly the "shortage" isn't so important.Yes, but it does yield problems... Every computer being able to reach every computer by individual address would be fine.

Quoting: GuestSo many changes, nice :-) Didn't expect that IPv6 support is new though!When I was in university, they told us that IPv4 is running short of addresses and the new IPv6 will fix that.
