If you want to see the rhythm-music platformer Runner3 on Linux, they need to see demand for it

Quoting: TuxeeAs I said: Make an educated guess about possible sales, assess required manhours. Make a decision. Even if the sales don't cover the expenses entirely the gained experience could be worth it. Kickstarting might be a feasible alternative (though you already have to be clear about the effort required).
Quoting: scaineThey already know what the effort is, particularly since they've supported us before. They just need to make a risk-based decision as to whether it's worth it (financially) or worthwhile (goodwill and ethically sound, supporting the little guy).
From what they're doing now, do you think
[ ] their former ports were a huge success or
[ ] their former ports were hardly worth the effort?

So long and thanks for all the fish!

Unforeseen Incidents, a classic-styled point & click inspired by X-Files and Lost will have full Linux support

I'm looking forward for this! Like the topic and the style, and the co-developer and publisher Application Systems Heidelberg did the same for Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet [External Link] as well. (Just seeing it's for 50% at the moment.)

Quoting: TuxeeThis seems to be most retarded approach to measure interest. I know others have done that before and accumulated hundreds of "+1" posts in Steam discussions. I wonder how many of these "+1" translate into purchases months or years after this discussion. There must be a more sane solution at hand, too - since there are so many Linux ports out there which came into being without that. Let me guess:

We have to invest so many man hours into the port. We have to sell so and so many copies to break even. Looking at our past stats we can expect so and so many sales. If we sell less, it won't cost us a fortune, we can file it under experience gained.
Let me guess: The did look at their past sells and it was hardly worth it. So they wonder themselves how to judge. If you'Ve got a better solution, make sure to propose it to them. (I do like the idea of kickstarting a Linux version. It would make sure to only make it when there's a set mimimum of sells.)

Quoting: GustyGhostTranslation: "If you peasants want us to extend some basic decency, you're going to have to get on your knees and beg for it."
1) Porting to Linux has nothing to do with decency. Developers need to eat, too.
2) Nobody's on his/her knees when telling that (s)he would buy something.

I'm all fine with developers asking for demand. Maybe their last game was not really woth the port and they'd like to know if they can hope for better this time... I'd ask for it if I would buy it (not my cup, though), and I'd never play it on WINE. And never ever pirate again. (This excuse is so lame.)

The Linux version of squad based Roguelike 'Steam Marines' has nearly become profitable

Quoting: LeopardIf we would overflowing with AAA's like Windows , i think that wouldn't be the same
Yes. It would be a huge surprise if the percentage would be close to the survey, as the percantage of supported games is lower. Like, the games supporting Linux are getting the share of those not doing so.

Quoting: sbolokanovDon't really see why are you people even showing up here and arguing that we do not need this.
Yeah. So sorry for stating our opinions.

Quoting: sbolokanovHow the f*ck is that affecting you at all???
Human ressources are limited.
There's problems with the Steam client affecting us all.
I'd prefer Valve working on those.
I'm fine with you wanting something else,
but I still fail to see what's the problem with installing a 32 bit layer.
Is it not available for your system?
Is your hard disc full?

Quoting: sbolokanovI will repeat for the last time

I'd like the client to have "proper" category support. I'm not sure how it should work, but for sure not the way it works now. I categorize games into played though/given up upon/not yet played/try again later, by genres, by "size" (to show off some AAA Linux games from time to time), by playability with a friend on the couch. So in the games list, the about 8 games installed show up at least 20 times... :-/

I've got no idea what you expect from a 64 bit Steam client. It's not like it would make anything faster or better. "Proper"? "Modern"? So what? There's still many games running on 32 bits, you'll need a 32 bit layer for a long time to go.
