Battle Royale game 'Darwin Project' looks like it might actually be coming to Linux

Quoting: cprnOkay, somebody has to explain why we call deathmatch a battle royale now. What's so different about it to constitute a whole new genre??
Under "deathmatch", I'd understand a game with respawning. IMHO, there's a lot less tension when you just get the death count one up instead of having lost the game immediately.

Quoting: Luke_NukemI wish to hell that we could get everyone using the term "Libre Software" instead. Because quite frankly, "Free Software" doesn't convey "freedom" at all, and just confuses the fuck out of people new to it when you try to explain.
I'm not sure this is true for most of the world. I would associate "free" with e.g. "land of the free" or similiar, not with not having to pay anything.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyTherefore you are empirically wrong.
Agreeing with what you're saying, just for the obvious complaint, you should have taken a minimal 500 bucks box as example.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPSorry, I had to do that ;)
It's good that you haven't been in the situation. I don't wish it to anybody. But I wish enough phantasy and empathy to everybody to imagine it, and, as a result, not making jokes about it. To be clear: not funny.

Quoting: GuestCan't the OS detect a game is running and it needs the CPU performing optimally?
Well, what's "a game" from OS's view to beginn with? I'd bet if a process needs all cores all the time, it's easy to crank up, but that's (fortunately) not what's happening with games most of the time. They're only using some cores, sometimes waiting for the next frame time or something... It seems it is behaviour hard to predict.

Quoting: GuestWhy isn't it getting fixed?
It's not easy, probably. It involves prediction (which is hard especially when it concerns the future, they say ;) ). Question is, may I throttle down the processor, or will it be needed in full power in a bunch of nanoseconds?

*edit* I was too slow. :)

Quoting: GuestWhat I meant was it should be automatic. No need for human intervention, no need to install a separate program.
That's what governors like "ondemand" are supposed to do, but don't always succeed in.

Did you find a way to test it?

Feral wrote "The first Feral release to integrate the tool is Rise of the Tomb Raider, an incredible action-adventure coming to Linux this month." But Liam is testing it with other games. What does that mean? In the moment, it has to be trigger manually, and starting with Rise of the Tomb Raider, it will do automatically if it finds the daemon?

Quoting: GuestAnd no i'm not going to listen to the "everything should be 64 bit" argument.
Well, when you're saying upfront you're not listening...

Quoting: GuestNo you do not "just recompile to 64 bit".
Sure. But 64 bits are a thing for way over a decade now.
