OUYA is blocking a Linux version of That Dragon, Cancer being on Steam
14 Jan 2016 at 9:35 am UTC

Why would Ouya oppose a Linux version on Steam?
Did we already arrive at step three of the saying...?
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

*edit* Ah, ok, the tweets explain it.

The 2015 GamingOnLinux GOTY award is now over, here's the results!

Quoting: Segata SanshiroAlso, I'm glad someone took the job from removing Broken Age from every single category - apparently someone's idea of a sick joke.
I liked it. Not a "GOTY" like, but a "got entertained" like.

Any information if it's done in-house or by an external porter?

Quoting: Xpanderdon't get me wrong. its a nice game, but imo apart from the amazing city, the story wasnt anything special to me, pretty much same as previous bioshock games in general. though i have only 5 hours into the game or something like that, but it didnt pull me in because of being nothing special.
I guess there's a point where a game (movie, book, whatever) has lost and cannot pull someone in anymore if it hasn't already done, so maybe Bioshock Infinite won't succeed on you anymore. But it's story really should only be judged after playing (not watching) through the whole game. It's a deserved clear win to me.

XCOM 2 is starting to look mighty interesting

Quoting: Stupendous ManThis is the first game in a long time that I'm actually thinking of buying at release. I won't preorder though, I see absolutely no incentive to do so, and too much risk.
I'll probably wait for the first few Linux reviews to come out and then but it. Then again, I'd kind of like to play through X-Com Enemy Unknown again first; after having played X-Com 2 I probably won't go back to the first one again.
If you haven't yet played Enemy Within, I'd choose this.

But we're talking about turn "timers", not, ermm... real-time timers, right?

Xcom from Feral considering the Windows previews could even make me preorder it if there would be some better incentive. Good there isn't. :D

SteamOS beta updated to support Xbox One Elite gamepad
10 Jan 2016 at 1:07 pm UTC

For those not keeping an eye on the latest SteamOS updates, a new beta was pushed out a few days ago! It's good to see Valve keeping up with new hardware support.
I don't have an eye on this, so I appreciate articles pointing out such changes. I find officially released updates more interesting than betas, though.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive updated, now with nicer sound options for Linux
9 Jan 2016 at 1:33 pm UTC

Quoting: barottoEvery single Valve game has problems with sound under Linux. I had several problems like infinite loops, hiccups, and cracklings with Portal2, L4D2 and CS:GO.
I wonder if they ever played the games they ported to their own operating system (steamos)...
Didn't meet any such problem playing through Portal, Portal 2 and Portal Stories: Mel or when trying other Valve games (HL 1 & 2, TF2, ...)

Team Fortress 2 updated to fix Linux memory usage

Quoting: lucinosone small detail. It is not a "free game", it is a "free to play game".
I think this is an important difference.
Serena [External Link], The Plan [External Link], You have to win the game [External Link], these are free games. They don't make money with it.
With Team Fortress 2 and many other games, they do make money, it's just a different way of monetization.
Steam makes the same difference: At the price tag, they either display "Free" or "Free to play".
