Quoting: nocriIts not something you would like to do on root partition, every other wont do much harm -- but CMON no one has steam data on root, right ?
This used to be the default of the file system.
So did you set it to differ from the default back then...?

Thanks for the tip but I dont want to risk losing my filesystem in case of powerfailure, I'd rather have it slow :)
You do not risk the whole file system, but just the last writes. I don't know about your place, but that's a safe bet here. If you want to have it even safer and still faster, you might try the tip from the comments, "commit=60".

Quoting: GuestBut I always get slow download speeds in steam, tried googling and some say dnsmasq improves it. Just tried that but no difference in speed. Anyone else had this and managed to fix it?
dnsmasq worked for me (of course, sometimes the servers are just slow), but some people suggested disabling write barriers as well (which used to be default some day, so I wouldn't consider it dangerous). Written down here:

Quoting: EikeI don't think so. Why would they hand out their sources in the first place?
I'm not really following what you mean by sources. Do you mean source code and source artwork?
As a programmer, I thought of source code, but of course they would hand all sources of whatever kind.

Quoting: natewardawgIf X company says, "We would like a Mac port."
Ok, now I understand what you meant. I was thinking of Shadow of Mordor, which has been officially announced for Linux. But it seems you were talking more generally about ports.

Quoting: natewardawgThat's a great question. I suspect at least part of it has to do with agreements with the original developers who may not want a Linux port for whatever reason.
